Mossin grieves at Quicksilver's story and says, "My story is also a sad tale. When i was but of 3 seasons old my family, my squirrel family, was killed my a pack of weasels. They spared me, only to torture me and give me my leg scars." Mossin pulls up his pants to reveal the gashes in his legs. he puts them down as several otter children gasp, then continues, " I wandered for days, crying for my parents untill i could go no further.I thought i would perish in the forest untill a young ottermaid found me. She took me to her parents, and they raised me as their own. They taught me how to use a bow and arrow with great skill." "When i was old enough, i left and became a mercenary." He took a sigh and said, "And.. that is my story."

Quicksilver Quicksilver was surprised that no one had asked that she leave but what would happen later. Would her past catch up with her here. She had belived that she was cursed for so long because death seemed to follow her where ever she went but would it happen here. Sher was torn between staying and waiting to see if she was asked to leave or leaving on her own terms to stop what might happen if she stayed. Quicksilver did not like it that she hurt others but it was a painful fact of her existance...

Grath is laughing and listening to stories with his friends on the other side of the table."Aye mate the creature was the size of a whale.." "Sure twas.." "Aye that it twas." Grath laughs in liking to listen to the whale tales of his crew. Suddenly an ottermaid whispers into the chieftain's ear. Grath looks at her in amazement, "it's that time already. Hmph 'ow time flies." Grath stands up and claps his paws together to get everyones attention. When everyone settled down Grath spoke, "I am sorry to say that it tis time for the young ones to rest, Fawnu would ye take care of them." The ottermaid curtsied and gathers the young ones to bed. "It was a lovely meal that our cooks did and I thank them for that. Now I am to turn in. Please stay and chat all that ye like." With that the otter chieftain walks sleeply out of the dining chamber to his sleeping chamber.

Back in the mountains, the otter stares down at Ittou with much interest. He smiles and pulls the beast to its feet. "Hello, sir. My name is Vasul Firesight, wanderer of this world. Are you with those vermin? What is your name?"

Quicksilver Quietly Quicksilver got up and slipped out a side door to try and find her way back to her room or somewhere else where she could be alone with her thoughts. How long would it be before something terrible happened here. She thought back to the last creatures who had given her shelter, a kindly hedgehog family, but their home was attacked and burned by a roving band of foxes. All of the little ones had died in the fire. She did not want to think of what might happen here if ill fortune followed her here. As Quicksilver turned a corner she found an ottermaid and several of the young ones being menaced by the biggest adder she had ever seen. The snake could not see her because she was behind it so it did not know she was there.
"Keep the little ones back." Quicksilver whispered as she reached for the snake.
Quickly she grabbed the snake by the tail and smacked it against the opposite wall as the ottermaid ushered the little ones off to a safe distance. The blow from hitting the wall had not stunned the adder as Quicksilver had hoped but had only made it even more angry. Before she could move or even drop the adder it had wrapped itself around her arm and had sank its fangs into her arm. Grabbing her dagger from her belt she killed the snake but both fangs had broken off in her arm, lodged in the bone. Dropping the snake, Quicksilver sat down against the wall cradling her arm...

Ittou stares a moment at the offered paw and then slowly takes it and hauls himself to his feet. "Ver-main. what a strange word, no?" his speech is heavily accented and barely understandable, but still rings with the varnish of noble upbringing. "i have been following the... ver-main for several... what do you call them? cycles of the sun? shirda" the unmistakable tone of a bitter curse is audible even through the launguage barrier. "my name is Ittou K'Kage, third house to the throne of the emperor! and yours?"

"Vasul Firesight, er... wanderer, fourth son in a family of bowbeasts," the otter replied. He extended a paw for Itterou to shake but he did not. The otter shrugged and offered Itterou some fruit. The creature pushed it away and shook his head. "No, otter. I do not need this," Itterou said. "Why don't you just except all of these friendly gestures?" Vasul asked. "Never mind that. Where are you headed?" "There is a band of goodbeasts around these parts, doing something about the vermin horde around here. I thought I'd pay them a visit. Where do you go?"

Grath is suddenly awoken from his slumber when an ottermaid rushes into his room and shaking him. Grath yawns and asks the maid, "Wot tis it?" The maid spills her info quickly at her cheiftain and Grath stops her in mid sentence. "Woah, woah. Take a breath and say it slowly, Filhorn." Filhorn tells Grath her info slowly and the otter chieftain jumps out of his bed, grabs his clothes and rushes out of his room.
Ottersbabes are crying in the hall, from the terror of being eaten by an adder.
Grath rushes to the infrimary, but stops to a halt in front of the huge dead adder in the hallway. The otter chieftain kicks the carcass to the side and continues on. When he reaches the infirmary, his grandmother stands outside of the door, telling every creature to go back to their beds. Grath walks over to his grandmother and asks, "Wot 'appened?" The elder otter tells Grath the whole story about Quicksilver rescueing the maid and the pups in the hallway from the adder. "I would like to thank 'er for savin' them." The elder otter thrusts an arm infront of Grath. "I wouldn't do that, if I were ye. For the maid is very ill and I gave 'er herbs that will rid the venom in her, but she needs a lot of rest from the ordeal she went through." Grath smiles at his grandmother. "Ye are the best 'ealer an otter will ever know." The elder otter blushes, "Oh stop it Grath, ye're makin' me blush." "Well, I will rid of the mess in the hall for ye grandmum." "That would nice, but could ye save me the head, for their are potions I need replenishin'."
Grath returns to the adder carcass, seperates the head from its body and drags it into the infrimary. His grandmother stands in the room waiting for the head. "I thank ye grandson, now ye may go. Grath leaves the adder head on the floor of the imfrimary and glances over at Quicksilver, sleeping in a bed where shelves of hidious sites are seen on the far wall. The otter chieftain walks out of the infrimary and goes again to the carcass with twelve otters to lift the huge adder carcass outside.

Quicksilver Even though she was asleep, Quicksilver lay on the verge of death but the herbs the old otter had given her were doing their job. In her semi-unconcious state she found herself going into the far recesses of her memory, dredging up memories that she thought she had forgotten. Most of them were of sadness, anger, and death but the few that were the exception were those of the time she had spent with her grandmother. She clearly remembered her and her father who had tried so hard to do what was right and care for Quicksilver even when the council forbade it. While she had been reliving her memories, her breathing had gradually become shallower and shallower as she lost ground to the adder's venom. The huge snake's poison was becoming too much for her to fight off even with the herbs. Quicksilver was becoming too tired to fight the venom from the adder, too tired to go on living with painful memories. The Fates, though, were not finished with her...

Vasul made his way through the woods, minding the vermin horde. He had bid Itterou farewell and continued on to the home of those creatures he had seen earlier. The otter saw a rat patroling outside what appeared to be their home. He appeared to be a scout and was all black, nearly invisible against the night sky. The rat stopped pacing when he heard a noise coming from the brush. He wandered that way and was laid flat by a blow to the back of the head. Vasul stood over the unconscious rat, twirling his staff. The otter kicked the rat into some bushes and made his way to the door. He began to pound loudly on the surface. Would anybody hear his knocking?

A slit in the door sildes open and a pair of eyes looks at Vasul. "Wot do ye want?"
The elderly ottermaid checks up on Quicksilver, she changes the young maid's dressings and applies more herbs to the wound. She picks up an old ancient staff with an adder skull on the top. It rattles as she shakes the staff over Quicksilver's body while chanting charms.
