The young raven flew as fast as his wings could carry him, hoping to somehow shake his pursuer off. It was fear which drove him on. A kind of fear he had never experienced before in his life. A fear which increased the moment he heard the terrifying cry of his pursuer, who finally had managed to catch up with the raven.
A powerful blow was suddenly dealt into the raven's back, which in return cried out in pain and pummeled down to earth. It felt as though he had been slammed against a giant tree, and it was sheer luck that the raven managed to recover enough for him to beat with his wings and prevent the deathly impact with the ground. Now flying just above the treetops, the raven vainly tried to fly faster only to be rewarded by another blow into his back.
Crying out in pain, the raven quickly lost altitude again. This time however, he didn't recover. Instead, the raven slammed fully against a massive tree. He could clearly hear the audible crack and feel the agonising pain, as his left wing broke. Now weakened and nearly unconscious from the pain, the raven dropped onto the ground where he lay, unmoving. He gasped for breath for a few moments and tried to get up. He couldn't get further but halfway up, as a sharp kick was dealt into the ravens side. The kick was strong enough to slam him against the very same tree he had hit a few moments earlier.
Now, with his body nearly numb with pain, the raven allowed himself to slid down the tree onto the ground. This time however, he didn't try to get up. Instead, he merely whimpered and glanced up into the cruel eyes of a fish eagle. "Well, well, well. What have we here?" The fish eagle said rhetorically, examining her prey. "Please..." He whimpered only to be rewarded by another sharp kick into his side. The raven cried out in pain while the fish eagle planted her taloned feet onto the ravens chest. "Shut up, you...!" She cried, adding a little pressure which only caused the young raven to scream louder.

Jay-rin's broad wing tip clipped the truck of a tree as the tenacious Cooper's Hawk stooped and decended on the fish eagle's back. He exicuted his attack without a second of thought or the slightest hesitation. Jay-rin was small and none too strong, but as he slammed into the eagle's back with every once of his power, and speed, the young hawk knew he had made solid contact. His small feet gripped the bird's back, and he raked feathers from her rump and tail. "Screeee! get off of him, carp picker!"

"Get off me, you insolent brat!" The fish eagle screamed, trying to shake the hawk off herself. "Get off me so I can teach that vermin a lesson!" "Don't listen to her!" The raven shouted in desparation. "She's trying to kill me!"

Jay-rin barely paused, and for a brief moment, he clung to the end of the fish eagle's tail, his wings held out for balance. Glancing from the raven to the eagle, the coopers hawk could see the desperation in the corvid's eyes, he could feel it in his voice. Flapping hard, the coopers hawk began buffeting the eagle's face with his strong, short wings. "let got!" His tone was shrill and sticcato.

"Why you little...!" The eagle screamed, flapping her wings frantically. In fact, the fish eagle was more focused on trying to get the copper hawk off than on finishing off the raven. A grave mistake.
More out of instinct, the raven kicked his taloned foot into the fish eagles chest. The eagle on the other hand didn't expect this move from the raven and was pushed back from the sudden blow. She screeched in pain as the tail feathers the copper hawk held on were forcefully torn off during the progress.
The fish eagle took a few jumps back, then glared hatefully at both, the raven and the copper hawk. She then looked at her lost tail feathers on the ground, then fixed her eyes on the pair, snarling "I'll remember you." Then she took off from the ground and flew away.
The raven cowered on the ground for a few moments, whimpering in pain and fear. He tried to move his broken wing, but failed due to the pain. He would not be able to use the wing for some time. "Thank you." He said finally, looking at his saviour. "Thank you." He whispered again, some tears trailing down his cheeks.

Jay-rinwas panting, with his wings held out and resting on the ground. His head feathers stood upright, and his pupils were constricted. The broken sunlight poured through the treetops, and the hawk squinted. Clicking his beak, he finaly answered. "Yeah... how's your wing there?" The hawk was still breathing heavily, and barely glanced at the raven, who was easily twice the small hawk's size.

"It's broken." The raven said, trying to surpress his sobs. Neither had he ever been scared like that nor did he had to face certain death. If it hadn't been for that brave little hawk, he wouldn't be alive.

Jay-rin flicked his wings closed, and stepped away from the mess of tail feathers in the loam. The earth was torn up from the struggle, and fluffy down floated, as if hovering around his feet. "Well, stop crying... Can you walk?" The little hawk roused, shaking his feathers so suddenly and violently, that his feet nearly left the ground. Some of his feathers that had been loosened in the scrape, came loose and drifted away.

"I think so." The raven replied, stiffling a couple of sobs. His whole body ached, but he couldn't stay here. He had to get somewhere safe where he can recover from the fight and where his wing had the time to heal.

The hawk looked around, his keen eyes spotted a dead, hollow tree. Half rotten, it had a weather-worn roof and a cavity big enough to shelter them both. "Let's have a look at this," Jay-rin started to fly off, then floded his wings back up and dropped to the ground, landing deftly on his feet. "Ahem, sorry.." He started walking, glancing back at the raven nervously.

The raven merely nodded and half heartedly followed the cooper hawk. He couldn't really speak now, for his throat felt as though it was clenched shut, while his eyes mirrored the emotions he felt at the moment. A mixture of pain, sadness and fear.

Jay-rin glanced over his shoulder, then his eyes snapped back to the fallen log ahead.. He wasn't a nuturing creature, and the thought of offering the young raven so much as a kind word made him feel uneasy. "You first," he said quietly, as they reached the fallen log. "Err.. careful.." The hawk brushed debris and old leaves from the entrence. An old, cotteny spider web draped across one half of the doorway, like dusty curtens.

The merely nodded, then entered and glanced around. The log was old and dirty, but it would provide a good hideout until his wounds had healed. He walked into the back of the log, then sat down and tried to make himself as comfortable as possible.

Jay-rin didn't sit down, but simply stood on the soft earth. It was cool and damp. The hawk glanced up at the wood, he saw that lichen and moss blanketed the surface. A knotthole acted as a skylight, letting some of the dappled green sunlight pour in. As Jay-rin's gaze fell on the raven again, he spoke. "Are you far from home? Lost?"

The raven shook his head. "No." He replied, then sighed heavily. "I don't really have a home. I was born in a vermin horde." He started to explain. "I was supposed to be a messenger and scout, but the horde eventually got destroyed. I've been flying around aimlessly since, trying to find another horde I could offer my services."
