"It's not?" Blackwing asked, raising his head slightly. "Then... what is a good place for a young bird to live?" He asked curiously.

"Well," Jay-rin said, not really sure of his answer. Such questions.. he thought. "In the woods I guess.. Learning to hunt and fly and protect a nest full of eggs.. though, maybe I'm just old fasioned.."

"That sounds... good." Blackwing said, trying to imagine what it was like. He knew, after all, nothing other than the horde life. "Please, Jay-rin, would you tell me how it is like? How does it feel to be free?"

Jay-rin opened his mouth, about to say something tackless like: 'what have they done to you?' but he stopped, suddenly realizing what kind of life this young raven must have been leading. It was like he couldn't quite comprehend it.. "It's not legendary, or heroic or anything like that.. but it is wonderful," the cooper's hawk said, his eyes glassy. "It can be very hard, but that makes everything else worth it. You can raise a nest of eyassand watch them fly off.. you can watch the sun rise from a different tree every morning." The hawk glanced at Blackwing, "Silly, little things like that."

"That sounds... wonderful." Blackwing replied, almost dreamingly. He lowered his head for a moment, deep in thought. Then, he gazed up at Jay-rin again. "Will you teach me how it is to be free?" He asked the copper hawk, hope gleaming in the young raven's eyes.

Jay-rin paused, but only for a moment. "Yeah, why not... though," he added, "It's hard to be free with a broken wing." He glanced down at the raven's injured limb. he wasn't much for sympathy, but he had to ask. "Does it hurt you much?"

Blackwing tilted his head slightly to get a better view of his wing. "Only if I move it." Blackwing replied. He sighed heavily, then looked up at Jay-rin again. "How long will it take for my wing to heal?"

The hawk raised an eyeridge. "I'm not sure, really.." He glanced down at his foot. "I broke my leg once, and it wasn't right for months,,"

"Then I can only hope for the best." Blackwing replied as he made himself comfortable. It seemed as though this log would be his home for some time. "Will we stay here?" The raven asked, suddenly. "Or do we leave in the morning for your territory?"

The Cooper's hawk glanced out at the fading light. The sunset was a translucent green through the forest ceiling. Inside the log was cool and dry, and even as a faint drizzle started outside, the two birds remained dry and comfortable. "Yes, well stay here tonight," Jay-rin said, "tomorrow, depending on how you feel, we can stay another few nights or head out to my home..." The little hawk looked at the raven.

Blackwing examined his wing a bit. He tried to flex his muscles, then immediately regretted it as searing pain shot up his wing. He clenched his beak shut and kept it still. Eventually, the pain subsided. "It hurts when I move it." He then said, turning to Jay-rin. "But I think I can manage." He quickly added. "I would feel safer once we're in your territory." He continued, the memories of the berserking eagle still fresh in his mind.

"now?" the little hawk asked. "you feel that you can travel in the condition?" Jay-rin's garnet colored eyes were questioning but gleamed with a kind of admiration for the young raven.

"I... I think so." Replied the raven. "I'd rather take my chances with the travel, than sitting here with that vengeful eagle around..." Blackwing said softly.
