A squirrel saught the cover of the pines, trying to escape from the midday sun. He staggered into the shade, and relieved, lay down on the lower boughs of a pine. It had been days since he had last eaten, and more days since he had been on the run from the furious hares of the fire mountain. At least he doubted that the hares would come here to search for him.

Higher up in the same tree, a mottled, gray creature lay on a sturdy limb. His paws were behind his head, against the bark for support, and the beast was trying to sleep. However, vibrations woke him, and the eyelids opened to reveal pale blue eyes and dark pupils, tilted downward. Something was near the tree. Bringing his head up and around, the wolf looked down admist the thick needle-like greenery. Nothing visible.

Sleep, however, was not coming easily to the squirrel. It was almost as if somebeast was looking at him. Chancing a look upwards, he spotted a poorly-groomed coat of grey fur. he quickly snapped his eyes shut, hoping that whatever the other animal was didn't see the whites of his eyes, literally.

OOC: WHAT'D YA MEAN, POORLY GROOMED!?
For a moment, it appeared that nobeast else was in the tree, but there was movement. The slightest amount, but still, it gave away life. The wolf bared his fangs malevolently, the lines of shadow and sunlight gleaming off the inscisors making them all the more fearsome. "Best not hide where 'tis unfamiliar," the creature said with hidden malice.

OOC: *cowers* 'mottled' synynoms least in the world of fur.
Opening his eyes again, the squirrel responded, "unfarmiliar? I was raised here"

OOC: *Raises fists* Mottled, not mangled! Look at a dictionary!
"Yet, evidently, you didn't know I was here," the wolf said, gracefully sliding around the tree limb until he was upside down and hanging on with his foreclaws. Seeing the other beast more clearly, it was clear that it was a squirrel, black as night and worn. "What do you want?"

OOC: mangled means mutilated. Mottled meens unkept.
"Anything you do."

OOC: ... MOTTLED - ADJECTIVE: Diversified color/shades of color
The wolf dug his claws into the tree trunk, putting his boots on second and then slowly crawling down. "Don't mess with me, squirrel. You look as weak as a leaf at the moment."

OOC: what, grey grey and more grey?
"Why don't you try me then, wolf?" the squirrel asked, sliding out a katana.

OOC: YOU MAKE SUCH SHORT POSTS...
At this the wolf simply sneered, peering down onto the dark squirrel. His kunai were on his belt should he need them, but it probably wouldn't come to a fight. "Oh, please. You're exhausted, squirrel."

"Even so, I'm still more than a match for you, as you can't be any better off." Hei saw scrutinized the wolf carefully- he had a few faint scars, neaning he was an experienced veteran; a variety of weapons, a few of which he could compare to his own; and face that leaked no emotion. This could be my first worthy challenge since he had taken out a half-dozen hares.

The pale eyes widened, on the merge of blood lust and madness, though it was controlled. The wolf stopped descending, choosing instead to look the squirrel up and down. "Oh? Unlike somebeasts, I know what food is," he said airily, grinding his tongue against his front teeth.

"I reckognize a meal when I see one, and I think that you would b nice, providing I could soften your meat up a bit first," said Hei, flicking his Katana around and circling the wolf, but not attacking.

Swiftly springing from the treeside, Xylon hit the forest floor with a thump and started to walk away chuckling and cracking up. "Heheheheh...a cannibal squirrel. Heheh, a little, stupid squirrel. Hehehe."

[ ooc: I think reading your ooc posts are more amusing than anything else. And Xylon, I've just spoiled you with my semi-usual 2 paragraph posts. ]
