Xylon bared his teeth, his eyes glaring hatingly back at the guard. "I'll keep my weapons on me, Redwaller. I was battling with Redwall warriors before you were a shadow of a thought in your mother's mind."

"Of course, no skin off my tail wether you stay out and get yourself killed." With that last comment Meerak strode off with his bow in paw just waiting for any vermin to show themselves.

Xylon allowed himself a grin. Foolish Redwallers and their little code of non-violent objects. The wolf walked the distance to the other corner of the wall, turning and seeing a wicket gate some feet away. Striding over and opening the gate by wedging his knife between the wall and the lock, Xylon opened it and stepped into Redwall's grounds.

Meerak patroled the wall for another half hour, when he got back to the place he had been, he noticed that the wicker gate was slightly ajar.

The hallway afforded Dwopple a good view of the abbey grounds. The mousebabe stopped a moment, to look out of a window, and noticerd a small gate in the abbey wall open, though he thought nothing of it. He stared down at the orchard, looking at the frozen over pond. He sneezed, and it echoed down the hall. Dwopple laughed, and as he did, an idea came to him. The pond was frozen. You could play on frozen ponds! The mousebabe hurried down the hallway, and down the steps, aiming to go outside, and for the pond.

Xylon had been walking along the inner side of the sandstone fro a while now. He was walking closer to the main Abbey building, and at the same time observing the abbey's statistics. All of the guards were tense, and trying to look warlike. Other than them, the grounds were abandoned. These must be bad times in Mossflower.
He saw a mousebabe running to the pond, which was frozen in the cold air. Xylon smiled. He always had a fondness for the dibbuns of Redwall.

Meerak shut the gate and turned around and saw Dwopple go flying towards the pond and he saw Xylon sneaking around by the wall. He decided to make sure the babe was safe and keep a wheter eye on the wolf.

Xylon was much closer to the main Abbey building by now. Turning around, he saw the guard's eyes gaze across the grounds to him. The guard didn't seem like much of a threat, so Xylon kept trotting along the wall.

"Halt. Again! What are you doing in these walls." Meerak yelled, stringing his bow.

Xylon stopped, a sense of boredom on his face. Trying to be quiet enough as to not alert the other guards, Xylon called out. These Redwallers had no respect for age. "Well, seeing as you have a problem, I thought I might come and help."

"Well, if you really wanted to come in I would have let you, but we have to be careful during a crisis such as this." From the west wall, above the gate came a shout. "HEY. They are out here in force. Maby a parley." Meerak told Dwopple to go inside and for Xylon to come to the walls. He ran up the steps and saw on the path a horde. A ballpark guess told him that there were over a thousand of them on the road.

((sorry for the little absence lol.... my internet is bonkers))
Dwopple groaned, and turned back in to go inside. Surely, somewhere, there was something to do! But the question was, what is it?

Xylon quickly ascended the stairs, his teeth bared. There were at least a thousand uniformed vermin, armed to the teeth. Pushing aside a mouse guard Xylon, stood at the edge of the ramparts. Never had a vermin army this big battled threated Redwall on its premises. Xylon called out to Meerak, "How strong is our numbers?"

"We've got little over two hundred. Perhaps we could send the sparrows in the roof to the north or to Salamandanstron." Meerak said. He was waiting for a messenger to begin parley.

"Yes, send the sparrows, quickly." Xylon's eyes clouded. He thought back upon the numerous occasions he was in Redwall. He thought back to all of those times he had fought with, and against, the peaceful Redwallers. He thought back to the Ridge of a Thousand. The Redwallers had the advantage, for now. But it was likely that the horde had a plan to breach the great walls. The Redwallers must outwit the great vermin amassed outside.
Or they will not survive this.
