The lean dark wolf spun on her companion, a snarl hovoring about her waspish face as she barked at him. The mottled moonlight falling through the treetops played with the lines of her stern face. "You shut up! I' know where I'm going, Garrick.." She turned her golden, night eyes to the grey bars of the forest. Around them, the crickets hummed and chirmed and distantly an alien sound crashed through the muttering night. Garrick leapt infront of his sister, his hackles raised slightly as he fingered a knife in his belt. He looked ready to fight anything, simply on the whim of his sister. One eye flickered a lucid blue in the vailed moonlight, and the other the moltin gold like his sibling. He let his paw drop from his dagger only after he was certan there was no danger. He turned to the younger wolf, speaking in a voice not often used. "We need to walk carefully, Mara." He sniffed the light air, scenting nothing but the smell of wet stone, rich soil and gently decaying leafs. "I know," she said mockingly, twisting a small staff from her loose belt. She walked past her brother, tapping him on the chest with it as she spoke. "We just need to follow the moon..." With what could have been a warm smile, Mara tapped a nearby leaf. It's surface bathed in moonlight. She tapped several, then held the pawful of moonbeams high enough to light the path a head. Garrick followed obediently, the silvery light brushed gentlly on his bowed head. "I wonder what that oaf, Haydn is up to..." Mara said, not llooking away from the narrow path. Garrick said nothing.

"Whatcha be doing this time of night strangers?' saisd a voice from a nearby tree. It was a large owl, it's huge eyes twinkling in the night.

Mara saw the eyes, her un readable expresion gently lit by the pawful of moonbeams as Garrick stepped out of the darkness behind her. His large frame was shadowed and dim behind her as she spoke coldly. "Walking." She shot a whisper over her shoulder at Garrick. Though it was too quiet to hear, her brother stepped out in front of her, a nameless weapon glinting at his side as Mara drew her paw closer to her narrow chest. She spoke again. "Why does it make a difference to you if we take a midnight stroll?"

The Owl's eyes glinted. "I was merely curious, there's no reason to draw your weapons." The owl replied.

Mara looked appraisingly up at the owl, one ear flicked under a firefly's slight tickle. She suddenly jabbed Garrick in the shoulder with her staff. He winced and drew back into the shadows again, the only hint of him was the vague glow of his harlequin eyes in the weak light. "Mind your own business night hawk.." She snapped, tapping her paw pad with the rowan staff. Behind her, Garrick drew breath to speak, but Mara sent him a hard glance. Convinced she had silenced him, she started forward past the owl, but Garrick stood and spoke in a gruff voice. "We are travelers," he said, "Lost. Do you know of any place nearby that would have us?" Mara froze in her steps and turned to Garrick with a dangerous look in her eyes.

There is an abbey near here. They will house you for the night. But be warned. They do not take kindly to cold-hearted creature. " The Owl replied

Garrick gave a shallow bow and spoke shortly. "Thank you." Mara's short, bitter staff came down in a flurry of spilling moonbeams, but Garrick shielded his head with his forearm. He barely protected himself, and did nothing to hurt the small wolf, and she stopped, fuming. "Mara.. we need to sleep in a bed. Eat hot food." She lowered her staff and turned to the owl, speaking in a slightly les hostile voice. "Which way is this abby?.." she looked thoughtful, as if finding the abby would solve more then the emeadiate problem.

I will guide you" The owl replied, taking flight. "It is better than just giving you directions. With your luck, you're only get lost again."

Mara started after the owl with a bark, "My luck is just fine!.." She slowed to a trot and Garrick started past her at a steady and mythodical walk. She fell in line beside him, having to change between a jog and a brisk walk to keep up with the larger wolf.

So tell me wolf, why are you so hostile to this Haydn creature?' The owl asked. He was well above the two wolves and out of the range of all but the most skilled archers.

Garrick walked on silently as Mara explained, twirling her staff irritably as she eyed the owl's shadowy flight. "He is my brother.. owr brother. He's weak and selfish.." The stick struck her paw again. She snarled as it stung sharply, speaking through celnched teeth. "He has been trying to stop us from replacing our Clan, The Siuil van Mhile, in a warmer climate.. We need a fresh start." Her voice had become soft, but snapped back to the harsh bark. "But he thinks we should remain in the cold... strive to raise a family in the deathly cold. I will not have my pups freeze in that place." Garrick blinked his strange eyes, as if punctuating his sister's words.

"And how do you propose to reestablish your clan? Through force?' The owl replied. "These lands are protected by a powerful Seer, wolf, he would not take kindly to your kind trying to impose itself here."

"I'll only use 'force'" she made the word sound ugly and large in her mouth. "If some beast tries to stop me.. I don't care what they are, pesent or seer..." Her small staff bit the ground as she strode out faster. "Who is this Seer anyway?.. Not that I care what they think, mind you."

One who is a master in the arts of magic" The Owl replied. "Trust me, wolf, if he hears of you, he WILL step in to stop you."

Mara snorted, but her eyes were slightly less arogent, and little more thoughtful. "I'm not planning on desterbing the peace," she lied. If that's what it would take, it was a small price for re settling the Siuil van Mhile. ".. Is he in the area by chance?" Her voice held a slight hint of fear, but she walked with her head high, unwilling to show any doubt.
