ooc: Sorry it took so long, I've been very busy lately. bic: Garrick was pushed from behind by Mara, looking as if a slight breeze had happened by as the young wolf threw herself at his back. with a small sigh he moved, Mara tripping as he stepped forward. They followed the mouse, both looking around at the beautiful abby.

(No need to apologize) " The Mouse spoke as he walked along. Our abbey dates back many ages. We Redwallers have had to deal with many attacks from vermin hordes but have managed to repulse them all." he stopped and looked at them.

Mara didn't let anything show on her face, but her mind was wirring. Garrick's voice piped up, gravelly and gentle. "It stands to reason," there was a slight laugh in his tone, "nothing is so strong and gentleness, and nothing so gentle and real strength.." He glanced at his sister in the corner of his eye.

Keenly aware that the two creatures were looking at her, Mara turned to Garrick with a hiss of a comment. "Since when do you talk so much?..." Her eyes glimmered a hot gold for a moment as she turned to the mouse. As she spoke her voice was not impolite, but there was a harsh sound beyond her soft and smoothed request. "We are both very tired... There is no need to wake anybeast to feed us, if you would just show us to some beds?.."

The mouse's smile did not waver, although he noted the undertone in her voice. "Follow me' He said leading them up a flight of stairs to where a couple of rooms were open. "There you go." the mouse replied.

Mara walked in slowly, looking around the dim room. Her pawsteps left ghostly prints in the fine dust. The wolf noted the fine floor, cool under her bare paws. It was comforting, the firm ground. It was nothing like ice that shifted and cracked. It was the vague hint of home she had been searching for for so long.. She felt a sudden pang of some strong emotion, unsure of what it was really. She gazed vacantly around the room, eyes less hard, almost wishing to see Haydn standing in the gentle silver shadows. She could see his soft face, dark and gentle tawny as he smiled, but the courtins rustled, the moonlight shifted and he was gone. "Thank you," She said quietly, "This will do... This.. this is perfect." Something in her heart felt final. This was the end of her wondering.

"You're welcome" the mouse said, turning to Garrick. "if you will follow me sir, I will show you your room."

The large wolf looked pained for a moment, gazing past the mouse at his sister.. When he spoke, his voice was somewhat childish. "..I'd like to stay here, with Mara," he said quietly, "if it's not.. any trouble."

Garrick felt a shiver run up his back and a few hairs prickled on the back of his neck, but he took a deep breath, blinking slowly. Without speaking, he followed the mouse, letting the doorframe cut off his gaze as it lingered on Mara.
After he was out of sight, Mara walked quietly up to the door and peeked around the corner. They hadn't been seperated in years, and she knew it must be killing him to have her out of his sight. She remembered vaguely, the day he promised their father he'd watch over both his siblings..
"I will," he nodded. His face was younger, thinner and his harlequine eyes were brighter and unjaded. "I will never let any harm come to Haydn or Mara..."
She blinked. Her mind was back in the abby, and listening hard for Garrick's pawsteps. She knew he regretted every day he was unsure of Haydn's safety. For once, she apologized to him silently. With that, she closed the door.

Still tense, Garrick nodded. Twisting his ears backward to listen down the hall, he asked quietly, "Where is this place exactly? .."

"Oh, sorry.." The wolf ran a paw over his head. "I'm not...I don't talk much... " He blinked and looked at the ciling as he walked. "We were lost when the Owl found us, and I don't have a good sense of what part of the forest we were in.. not important.. just wondering." His voice trailed off and he gazed over his shoulder at Mara.
Back in her room, the young wolfess kicked back the cool, linen sheets and slid into her bed. Sleep washed over her like the cool night breeze flitting in threw the open window.
