Fiona slowly set Rinn's paw back on the cot where she had been laid and quietly walked back out to the deck. "How far til our destination?" she asked Sariel as she made sure the tiller was lashed in its proper position.

Rinn Fian "Well, our situation isn't much better. We would be able to make it in half a day if the ship was undamaged but with as much damage as what we took it will take twice as long. Some of the foward compartments have started to take on water as well." Sariel said gravely to Fiona. Quickly the squirrel set off to organize some of the crew into a bucket brigade to help bail out some of the water that was accumulating in the forward cabins. Sariel silently prayed that they would reach land before they became too water logged.

Fiona sighed and put a paw to her head. "Whoever did this will pay with their lives!" she vowed as she slowly climbed to the crows nest. She sat up there for an hour or so, gazing seaward in attempt to sight the land that would give Rinn and her crew so much hope. She scowled as she clmbed down to the debris-covered deck and walked to the galley to get food. "Nothing visible yet." she told Sariel as she passed him.

Rinn Fian Sariel nodded as Fiona spoke to him as she passed then returned to the problems at hand. Knowing that it was still going to be a long while before they reached land, he had set up bucket brigades that would switch off every couple hours. Sariel had also gotten a few of the off duty crew to start clearing the deck of the debries from the battle. Once everything was taken care of and under way, the loyal squirrel went to see how his captain was doing. Rinn was still asleep in her cabin, boardering on unconciousness. Sariel was deeply concerned about Rinn's well being when he saw that her once dark fur had paled drasticly since they had brought her to her cabin. "Poor Rinn, you need to be more careful. You've cheated death too many times and it's taking its toll on you, the next time you might not be so lucky." Sariel said quietly as he shook his head in dismay....

Fiona silently ate a meager supper of hardtack and a slice of fresh fish and ignored the chatter around her. Fter she finished, she went to check on Rinn again and found Sariel. "Hello-" she began, but then she noticed Rinn's grey fur. Her shoulders slumped as she sat down next to her friend. "Escaping death countless times is never easy on a creature's body." she murmured.

Rinn Fian "No, it isn't." Sariel sighed, "The real miracle is that fact the Rinn hasn't gone mad from the number of times that she's seen the gates of dark forest. Either one of us would have gone mad a long time ago." Sariel gently touched Rinn's paw in a reassuring gesture before leaving to check on the progress of the clean up and the water bailing. Rinn barely felt Sariel touch her paw through the haze of dreamless sleep that clouded her mind. For a moment her eyes opened a little before closing again, she was still exhausted from her plight to stay in the realm of the living. Each time she had to endure such a fight the longer it took her to rebound from it.....

Fiona noticed Rinn's eyes opening and smiled. "Time will tell what happens next..." she whispered as she gazed at her friend's unseeing face.

Rinn Fian Sariel was pleased with the progress that was being made with the bailing and clean up. As the hours slowly passed by and the day waned, he began to grow anxious about how they would fair the night because the crew was already looking very tired. Wearly Sariel climbed up to the crow's nest to see if there was any sign of hope on the horizion and sure enough it was there. On the distant darkening horizion was a smudge that signaled the presence of an island. Quickly he bounded back down to the deck. "Fiona, land's been spotted! We'll probably be there within the hour!" he shouted excitedly as he slammed the cabin door open. The loud sound of the cabin door slamming open quickly brought Rinn from the realms of the dreamless sleep that had held her captive. Slowly her eyes opened and the cabin came into focus....

Fiona turned to Sairel and smiled. "Excellent! Give the crew some extra vittles, we've got to get there soon! No time to rest!" She skipped out the cabin door, not noticing Rinn's open eyes. She scampered up the crow's nest and gazed out. Sariel's word were true; they were drawing closer to the dark smudge by the minute.

Rinn Fian Sariel turned to follow Fiona out the cabin door when he saw that Rinn was awake. "What's all the yelling about?" she asked, her voice fain and raspy at first but growing stronger as she spoke. "Land's been spotted, we'll be there within the hour." Sariel answered as he walked over to the side of the cot. "I want to see." Rinn said, shakily heaving herself up from the cot. Sariel tried to get her to lie back down and rest but Rinn would have none of that. Knowing that it was useless to press further, he helped her up and out onto the deck. Grimly Rinn insisted to stand on her own as she surveyed the horizion from the railing, her paw pressed against her wounded side.....

Fiona stood in the crow's nest a while longer as they approached the land mass. As she climbed down, she noticed a familiar figure standing by the weathered railing... "Rinn!" Fiona dashed over to her beloved shipmate and gave her a gentle hug. "You're okay! Come on, you need some vittles, there's got to be some left in the galley! Are you feeling okay? Sariel, did you tell her we've found land?" She asked a hundred questions a minute as she looked Rinn over, making sure that she wasn't dreaming.

Rinn Fian Rinn was slightly surprised by Fiona sudden appearance, breaking her concentration from the ever growing dark form on the horizion. "Of course I'm okay, there's not much that can put me down for long. Though I now look like somebeast's great grandmother." Rinn answered with some amusement. "The minute I told Rinn that we had spotted land, that was the end of her lying on that cot." added Sariel.
