"No thanks on the axe and armor, havn't had a need for them since they had work done last, and my gut ain't to big for my armor yet. This trip'll whip me inta shape I suppose." Redstripe yawned and scratched his chin."I know I can still fight but you never could without hurting your precious fluffy tail." He grinned and nodded,"Aye, together again for a grand ole venture."

Stripetail shot him a look. "and who's saved whom more times than not? I'll work on the armor just the same, i'll wager its been a bit since you've worn it. I too am looking forward to this journey, Redstripe. it may be one of the last times together for us, you aren't getting any younger, and neither am I for that matter.

"Aye, and I've always returned the favor. Go ahead and do what ye will with my armor, you would of anyway." Redstriped yawned and stood up. He threw another log on the fire and sat back down."Talk to Jally, she'll set ye up with a room."

"Thank you Redstripe. I will do that. But before I do, tell me what you have over these last twenty seasons. you can't have spent all that time here at redwall?' Stripetail said , arching his eyebrow.

"Aye, your right there. Only the last five seasons have I spent here. The other fifteen were mainly wandering. I sailed a little, fought some vermin overseas. Helped liberate a lot of slaves. Just really spreading the story of Redstripe the Strong to distant lands." He thought back to his several adventures. He still had some aches and pains from injuries sustained, but that just reminds him that his foe isn't dead. The rat scum fled before Redstripe could deal the fatal blow.

In the same way you've spread my name?' Stripetail cracked. "Not that my name needs spreading, old friend, I've travelled extensively." He fingered his staff , which had served his well over many many seasons, and would serve him again on this trip. "Do you tremember any of the vermin leaders that you fought?"

"Aye I remember... all to well. The only one who lived, Bloodgill. A searat captain, biggest rat I've ever seen. Braver then most vermin, freaky really." He thought hard, but he didn't have to...Bloodgill's image was burned into Redstripe's memory."Black fur, deep black, his eyes are red tinted like he's in a bloodwrath but it tain't possible for him to be. He's about three heads taller then most rats, and he carrys a scyth. Handle is as tall as I am, the blade a good three feet long, blackened by fire and forged with saw teeth. He's a cold blooded animal." He sighed.
"A group of otters and I attacked his crew when their ship the Blood Shark was anchored off shore. He saw us comming to free the slaves... and killed each one, draining their blood into the water to attract the sharks. Hundreds of otters died on the ship and in the water. I barely made it. My craft was destroyed by three massive sharks and I swam for my life to shore. I can still hear him laughing." Redstripe's grip on the arm of the chair tightened, his jaw clenched together and a faint redness hit his eyes as he thought about Bloodgill.

Stripetail made no movemeent, but his eyes held a strange fire. "Bloodgill.. I've heard of him. Terrible creature, absolutely ruthless. Your description of him, jives with stories I've heard of him. Rare the beast thats tangled with him and lived, and you tell me you barely escaped. so your attack on his ship failed." the look on his friend's face told all he needed to know, that ill-fated rescue attempt continued to weigh on him. "You did all you could, even had I been there, there'd have been little I could have done myself . Saved a few otters perhaps, but most of them still would have been slain and thrown in the water."

"Aye, but If I coulda gotten to the ship." He let go of his chair, his claws starting to crack the wood. He looked at his paw, the splinters that had peirced into it and sighed."I'll speak no more of it tonight. I need my sleep if we're to head out in the morning. Besides, we'll need to stop by the otter's holt and talk to Hitchaw about a craft."

"Fair enough. Best not to disturb your thoughts further. It would not do to have you upset as we're packing.. we need you in good spirits on this trip.."

"Aye...highs spirits and what not." He yawned and his eyes closed. His chin rested on his chest as he started to snore, lightly at first but it climbed into loud roar like snores.

Stripetail patted his friend on the head, then turned towards the doorway. The adventure ahead would take everything they had, so it would be best to travel with enough food and good spirits. "I'll wager five scones he'll be talking about the old times most of the trip" He said to himself with a grin as jally came up to him. "Hello Jally. If you would kindly lead me to my rooom now please, I'll be much obliged.

Jally had been waiting outside the room and listening to the conversation. She frowned. She had moved down the hall a ways when she heard Stripetail moving towards the door."Of course Lord Stripetail..." She led him down the hall to one of the empty rooms. There was a small fireplace, a large bed with a small table beside it, and a large, although not as big as Redstripe's, armchair infront of the fireplace."If you need anything my room is two doors down from the infirmary. And Lord Stripetail, please if Redstripe does go be sure to bring him back to us. The dibbuns would...would...just die if anything happened to him!"

"Stripetail smiled at the young mousemaid. "Rest assured Jally, I'll bring him back in one piece. But he may be statying at Salamandastron for a long time, maybe the rest of his life. It all depends on what the Badger Lord decides

Redstripe stared at the ship bobbing on the tide, he looked around him at the otter warriors gathered around. He figured this would be easy, raid the ship, free slaves, and kill the captain. He stared at the small craft that would get him to the ship, the otters would swim ahead and meet him on the ship. He pulled his helm over his head and dropped the visor."Charge!" The otters hit the water like lighting, but left only slight ripples. Redstripe launched himself into the craft and started rowing towards the ship. He heard the screams before he saw the gruesome scene.
Standing on the deck was a massive rat, his weapon looking like somthing from dark stories told to dibbuns to keep them indoors at night. But it wasn't the rat that shocked him, it was the waterfall of blood from the dead and dying slaves. What Redstripe saw as a random act of cruelety soon showed him what horrible purpose it served. He watched with horrified sickness as sharks drawn to the blood entered a feeding frenzy...on the otters. The otters that made it to the ship were quickly dispatched by the highly militeristic pirates. He watched as the waters turned red, no sign of the greenish ocean color.
He felt the thump, then another and then heard the wood cracking. He saw the massive fins streaming towards his boat, he knew he couldn't swim in his armor. He quickly shed it and strapped his axe to his back. He launched himself into the water and swam as fast as he could. He had hit sand before he knew it, dripping the bloody water off of him. He turned and saw that evil rat looking at him, laughing, mocking him. Jaw clenched and arms shaking he roared at the rat, his body shaking and trembling from the effort. He dropped to his knees as the blood tide washed around him. Not a single otter returned that day...
Redstripe opened his eyes as a slight stream of sunlight came through the window. It was early morning, the sun just starting to rise. He sighed and rubbed his eyes, he looked around the room and spotted his worn pack. He grabbed it and tossed it onto his bed. Pulling his armor on and grabbing his axe he walked out of the room. He stopped, turned around and grabbed his pack, then left his room. He headed down to the Great Hall and then to the kitchen. He filled his pack with bread and cheese, and some flasks of water. He then grabbed some breakfast and sat in the dining hall and awaited Stripetail.
