if he is going to be your replacement someday, you are going to need to let him face danger at some point Geldor Stripetail pointed out. " the sooner , the better as far as i am concerned. While Redwall has never fallen in battle, there have been some close calls. And it takes time for the residents here to get 'ready' in any event. Merrik is young and lacks seasoning true, but adventures have a way of changing that. besides, short of traveling with the Badger Lord himself, he will find no better protector on an adventure than me. you have my word Geldor on that, and i always keep my word." Stripetail said. " But lets ask Merrik his opinion. if he doesn't want to come, we'll leave and that will be that. If he does, let him. it will be an adventure he will be telling and re-telling for the rest of his days, adding and embroidering the tale as the years pass, as these tales are wont to do.' Stripetail chuckled.

Merrik's eyes lit up from the offer from the old squirrel. Adventure, training, experience, things he could never get cooped up behind these walls. It could be lifetimes before he could ever be like the great Martin the Warrior, and he would end up being a fat preacher, not that he has anything against them of course... He stared up at Geldor with pleading eyes, to which the otter chuckled.
Geldor turned back to Stripetail, more serious this time. "On one condition," he replied. "That I should come along with you, to keep young Merrik here safe of course. That way, he'll also have to step up his training, for which I won't be taking so lightly..." The last words he looked back to Merrik.
"That's all I need, Master Geldor," the youngling replied eagerly. "I'll take whatever challenge you give me, no matter how hard you make it!"
Geldor couldn't stop a laugh at the remark, and again he turned to Stripetail. "Is it a deal? It's both of us or none, my Lord."

You are welcome to come of course ,Geldor. we will be leaving officially on the quest tomorrow, we will be staying overnight at the tavern Stripetail said. its ten miles from here.. Go grab as many things as you think you will need.Merrik you as well. bring those staffs, I will be teaching you some slight magics, just enough to allow you to get away from an enemy or lighten a heavy load. stronger magics take skill and years of training, which , in these lands the ability just isn't there..so i will keep it simple.. be at the tavern around sundown ' Stripetail informed them..

Geldor nodded, and then looked down at Merrik. "Well, you heard the good seer. Get packing."
Merrik did not hesitate as he raced off inside to pack, running like someone was trying to cut his tail off.
Geldor laughed at the sight. "I guess we'll see you at the tavern then, my Lord."

Ladorak nodded mutely, following after with almost an emotionless look upon his features. He was turning it all over in his mind. Every bit of it. He was going to slay them... those accursed, wretched beasts. His face darkened now. Once they were dead... it would all be easier. But the rest of it... what about their families? The cousin's family he had no qualms about putting down... but the Emperor's? Could he do that? Could he simply massacre them if they refused to accept the death of their patriarch? And why would they accept it? Filial ties were strong after all... and ones usually did not sit by and let you slay their patriarch.

Geldor watched the two go before he headed to his own home to pack his gear for the trip. While his wife Daisy was cooking his food for the trip, Geldor slipped into his chain mail shirt and covered it with a tunic. He inspected his claymore once more before he sheathed it and placed it near this things. Then he joined his wife at the table to share a meal and explain about the coming journey...
----------
Merrik was packing his belongings into his bag for the trip. He was so excited that he was forgetting to pack food in as well...
----------
Meanwhile, on top of the Great Southern Cliffs to the south of Redwall, a fight was raging in the forests. More of a massacre, as bodies of the cannibalistic denizens were piling up on the forest floor. Their slayers, armor-clad and keen for war, launched volleys of spears and arrows into the canopy to rain more victims to the ground. Those that were not shot from the branches came down in an attempt to engage their attackers, but were quickly cut down by swords and blades.
Among the warriors, a figure whose visage hides beneath a helm adorned by bat wings watches the fray. His piercing dark eyes with a sense of satisfaction to the carnage...

Stripetail walked on down the trail lost in his own thoughts for a short while. this journey would be dangerous, lengrhy, but of they found this treasure, immernsely rewarding. " Stripetail didn't really need the money he was interested in the magical objects and what he could learn from using them, and studying them..but to find it, they had to do a delicate diplomatic dance, Stripetail knew very well the constant struggles that occur between leaders of various land, they were always trying to undermine each other, in this case, the undermining of the Vulpine Imperium had been quite effective, although one could lay the hair share of that blame at the feet of the current emperor

After a great meal, Geldor kissed his wife goodbye and returned to the Abbey to wait on Merrik, and then check the squirrel's pack to make sure he was bringing the right equipment. It was here that they both knew Merrik wasn't carrying food, but luckily Geldor's wife had made two food packs, one for Merrik.
Geldor was ready, with his pack and claymore on his back, as well as Merrik, with his pack slung over his shoulder and his short staffs tied together for walking. The two waved goodbye to the other Redwallers and departed on the road to the tavern. They should make it late in the afternoon...

"Indeed." the stoat said, nodding with pursed lips. He was still turning things over in his mind, and wondering just how long he could afford to stay away for. He was determined to come out here after all... but now that all of his past had been reawoken... he wondered if it was perhaps not better to have passed over this excursion.
But, of course, it was too late for that now. He'd see how it would go, and would think about where to go as time passed. As he prepared to push the door open to the tavern, he looked over in Stripetail's direction. "You know this place better than I do. Feel free to seat us wherever you like." the stoat stated, and swung the door inward, pushing with this paw.

"Aye, sir," Tarnik replied and turned to fill two mugs with drink. It only took him no more than two moments, and he placed the full-to-the-brim mugs on the counter.
Ravyn also looked to the newcomers. Somehow, they aren't as normal as they first think...
----------
Geldor and Merrik traveled on down the road until they reached sight of the Tavern...
