Stripetail finished covering the fire and straightened up. he went over and picked up his staff, and went over to Mardha ' Lets get moving shall we? There should be a marker close that shows how far it is to Redwall. the residents put them in places up to 100 miles away. So we should be able to find one and find out how close we are to the abbey."

"I don't recall having seen any but I can't say I've looked that close at the stones along the roads." Mardha as she adjusted the Cadoc's bundle before they set off.
In all her seasons of travel, marker stones had never meant anything to Mardha. For 30 seasons she had roamed the wilds with Cadoc, in a way she had been on the run from the rest of the world. Now she wasn't so sure about going back. Mardha walked on in silence, her slight limp not slowing her down at all as she kept pace easily with Stripetail. As midday approached they came upon a weathered marker crooked with age. Still legible on it's surface was the symbol for Redwall Abbey and an arrow the pointed on down the path. A number was carved below the arrow but time had partially eroded it away. Kneeling down, Mardha rand her hand over the number.
"It looks like this Redwall place is some 200 leagues down this path. We'll be there in a couple days time if all goes well." Mardha said as she stood up.

Good. it appears the weather will cooperate today, as there are very few clouds in the sky ' StrIpetail said ' stripetail was in no hurry, he could afford to take his time walking. Usually, he traveled alone, but not today.

"Aye, that it does." Mardha said as she used her staff to push herself up off the ground.
Together they walked on down the path in silence, there was not much that need for idle chit chat. Mardha poured over in her mind all that Stripetail had told her about the place called Redwall Abbey. With it only being a couple days travel ahead of them she would need to decide soon if she would continue on with him or if they would go their separate ways. She had to admit that the many seasons of travel on desolate seldom traveled paths with Cadoc as her only companion were beginning to wear on her. It was a hermit's existence that she had been leading for almost half of her life now. Maybe that was why she had taken to Stripetail's companionship so easily. In the first few seasons after the attack she had been extremely wary of others but now that was beginning to fade.
One day rolled into another with little change as they traveled down the path. Strangely in all her long seasons of wandering Mardha had never passed this way. It was not long though before the ancient red sandstone walls of the venerable abbey began to come into view. For a moment she stopped in awe at the shear size of that which laid before her. It was then that Mardha felt something that she had not felt in many many a long season; curiosity. It had been a feeling that had begun to build in the back of her mind as a result of the stories that Stripetail had told her. Now, having finally seen the place he had spoke of she wondered if it was all true. Mardha had to admit that a good proper meal did sound quite appealing since she had been living by what she could forage during her travels.
"Shall we go there Cadoc? Shall we see this Redwall place for ourselves...safe enough it seems." Mardha whispered to the cloth bundle that she carried on her back.
Stripetail was already some distance ahead of her at the gates already. With a nod, Mardha made her decision. She and Cadoc would go to Redwall.
