Appearance
Sparrow is a pretty young red squirrelmaid. Tufts of fur shoot from the tops of her ears, giving the impression that she is a little taller than she really is. Her face and eyes are warm and inviting, often accompanied by a playful smirk. The first thing one would probably notice about Sparrow however, is her use of two carefully whittled crutches which help her move about, and the look of her somewhat lifeless hind legs which only move together and opposite to the crutches. As she moves one might catch a glimpse of her face wincing in pain, but she hides that the best she can.
History
Fate loves irony and it wasn’t long after the squirrel named for a creature of the sky was born that she was sentenced to the ground. Their mother had warned Sparrow and her brother to stay in the home that day while she was gone as the sky looked ominous. Sparrow was fearless though at only a few seasons old, and as soon as her mother had left, she dragged her brother out into the trees with her, caught up in a fantastic game. A sudden gust of wind was all it took and the squirrelmaid lost her footing.
She didn’t make a noise as she fell through the air, and it all happened in slow motion. Her elder brother on the other hand hollered with grief immediately, to him it was instant. She didn’t land in a soft pile of leaves, but on the packed earth of a dry riverbed, instantly shattering the bones in both her hind legs. It was probably only due to her young age and supple spine that her other injuries received were recoverable.
It was decided by her mother and father that Sparrow be taken to Redwall Abbey as there at least she would be safe on the ground. An immobile squirrel in the forests generally would not last long. Since then she has learned how to walk again with the use of crutches and gets along well with the Abbey life, but every day she dreams of bigger things, bigger adventures that she could have if only she had shared the wings of her namesake.

Personality
Despite her physical setbacks, Sparrow glows with warmth and life. She’s happy to listen to anyone and likes making others feel special. She enjoys a good chuckle and finds it very easy to make new friends. Sparrow is rather sensitive about her disability though she may try to hide that, but despite her best attempts, she can become somewhat impatient and snappy if others try to cater to her. She doesn’t like to feel that she is a burden and doesn’t appreciate being reminded of it. Sparrow is adventurous and quite fearless at heart which can lead her to say and do things she ought not. If she could have it her way she’d be out in the woods, sword in hand, ridding the land of vermin.
