Jay-rin blinked his garnet colored eyes, slightly taken aback at the raven's reply. Jay-rin himself lived a simple life in the forest, not playing much of a part in the outside world. He was a loner, and couldn't imagine working with furred, wing-less vermin. In his mind, they were not to be consorted with. "What's your name then?" The cooper's hawk preened absently as he waited for the answer. Even if the raven had an alein past, in his opinnion, he was a Child of the Sky, and he was abligated to offer help.

"My name is Blackwing." The raven replied, looking up at the copper hawk.

"Well, Blackwing," the small hawk said, glancing out at the opening. "We might as well stay the night..." Something, a wing maybe, clipped the evening light. Whether it was the fish eagle returning or just a passerby, the hawk didn't know. "I'm Jay-rin.."

"Pleased to meet you, Jay-rin." Blackwing replied, glancing out of the opening. "What will happen to me now?" Blackwing asked softly. While although Jay-rin had saved him and he was thankful for it, he still did not know what Jay-rin wanted to do with him.

The hawk shrugged his strong shoulders in a lopsided manner, then, flicked his tail. "I don't know," he muttered, " I supposed I could leave you here.. You can't fly, so I can't bring you to last years nest." Jay-rin paused, glancing at teh young bird, "are you afraid of me?" The thought almost made him smile. Almost.

The raven was taken aback for a moment. "Well, I... uh..." He hung his head slightly in shame. "Yes, I think slightly I do." He looked up and into the copper hawk's eyes. "Am I to be your new servant?" He asked out of curiousity.

It was all Jay-rin could do not to burst out with a raspy laugh. "Well, if you want to" he said, " but that isn't what I had in mind... I'm not part of some vermin horde," the hawk said, "I'm just getting by.. I don't have a career, a home. I'm a vagrant of sorts," he concluded.

"What's a vagrant?" The raven asked, then hung his head again. "I'm sorry, master, that sounded stupid. It's just..." Blackwing struggled for a moment to find the right words, then sighed and shrugged his shoulders. "I don't know anything about the world outside a horde. That's all." He admitted, though blushing slightly from embarassment.

The hawk blinked, absalutely stunned at the young bird's mentality. "I'm not a master, Blackwing. Let's make that clear... I just wonder around these woods, that's all I do. That is what a vagrant does." Jay-rin frowned, "was that eagle from your horde?"

"No, she wasn't." Blackwing replied, sighing heavily. "Before she attacked me, she said that I had tresspassed into her territory and stole her food. I didn't know anything about it, though. I admit, I might have tresspassed into her territory and maybe eat a couple of berries from the trees there, but... that's no reason to try and kill me... Right?" He asked, somewhat afraid of Jay-rin's answer.

Jay-rin shrugged, "I would have chased you off, honestly.. Obviously she was in a bad mood.. and might have over-reacted." He sat down where he was, and preened absently. "Anyway, we aren't in my territory right now," he sounded slightly worried, "so we might want to keep a low profile, stay quiet.."

Blackwing nodded. "Yes... erm..." He looked at Jay-rin, somewhat confused. "Forgive me, my lord, but what should I call you then if not master?" He asked curiously.

"Jay-rin, or Jay.. just not lord or master.." the hawk said, almost smiling now. The raven's odd manner was beginning to grow on him. "Now, Blackwing," he muttered, "what is it like living with a horde of vermin..? Anything like the old tales?"

"Well..." The raven hung his head, unsure of what he meant by his comment about old tales. "Not really, I guess." He said finally, shrugging. "It's a living, I guess. You're taught what you must know to fulfill your duties and do whatever your superior tells you to do. If you don't or fail in your tasks or displease him in any way you're being punished."

"That's sounds like a jolly good time," the hawk muttered. "Well, at least you are pout of that place... that's no place for a young bird to live."
