" Very well then, young Samkin." He thought to himself as he raced after Samkin. Being bigger than the younger squirrel, he could cover more ground with each step, and despite the early jump Samkin had gotten on him, he quickly gained ground. As he drew level with Samkin, he smiled at the stunned look on his face, and put forth a burst of speed that carried him past Samkin and allowed him to reach the village first. He stopped when he reached Fox Glove, and turned to wait for Samkin. As Samkin reached them, Stripetail smiled. "Not bad for an old squirrell, eh Samkin?" He laughed at the look of shock on Samkin's face, and turned toward a large hut on the edge of the village. Rosey came out of the hut and stood aside as he passed. On the floor, were the packs of food he had packed, Snowy was asleep on one of them. " He fell asleep once we got here. How's Brome?' In response, Brome stuck his head out of the pack Stripetail had on his back. " The babe must have just woken up." As Fox Glove and Samkin entered the hut, he set Brome down , and sat down on the floor. " Now, let's plan our strategy for dealing with the vermin. Anyone have any ideas?" Lord Stripetail

I haven't seen the horde so I can't say much. We definatley won't win a frontal assualt so we'll have to be sneaky. If we were to go to Salamandastron we could get reinforcements from the Long Patrol and Guosim. Even Skip might be there by now. I have another friend on the way as well. His name is Brocktree because he was found near the secret entrance to brockhall.

"Very true, Samkin, but Salamandastron is a good distance from here, Redwall is even further away. So that plan wouldn't work, based on the long distances we'd have to cover. It would take at least a season for any creatures leaving Mossflower now to reach here, unless they traveled by sea, which depending on the weather, could be quicker or slower. I believe you said that Skip and his friends would be here in a matter of days. I hope your right. In the meantime, we should search for the moles who used to live here, we need all the allies we can get. Is Brocktree, perchance, a Badger? If he is, then he might be a descendant of Lord Brocktree, which would be a good help." Lord Stripetail

Indeed he is a badger. A very powerful badger. He uses a halberd lady Red Eyes' halberd. I don't know much about him only that I've raised him like a son since i found him. He has a deep hate of all creatures tht cause suffering wether they be vermin or not.

" The weapon of Cregga Red-Eyes, eh? She spent her last seasons at Redwall, she was the Mother Badger there. She lost her sight in battle, and couldn't fight anymore. So this Brocktree must indeed be a descendant of Lord Brocktree, good. So he hates all who harm the innocent? He wil make a strong ally. Can you make contact with Skip and the others, and tell them to hurry? With vermin on the prowl, this land is not safe." Lord Stripetail

It will take awhile. I would have to run. Unless you have a boat or have enough magic to teleport me to Salamandastron. They will be here in a matter of days. For now we should find a home for the youngens. I would nevr forgive myself if one of them was hurt.

Lord Stripetail nodded."Good point Samkin. We must find a safe place for the Dibbuns. I would suggest my home, but then someone would have to take care of them, and I'm away on business much of the time. As for teleporting you to Salamandastron, I can do it, but it won't be easy. The further away you are from where you want to go, the more energy it takes to send you there. The incantation is called ' Sendus Distacia'". He sighed. "But before I can send you there, Samkin, I must build up my strength. If you overextend your powers , you can seriously hurt yourself. I knew of a creature who tried to teleport himself across the Sea. Only the most powerful creatures can do that, and he was not nearly powerful enough to make it all the way across. He only managed to make it halfway across, luckily he landed on an island, and was able to make it back. Lord Stripetail

Let's not take any chances we'll have to wait the few days. Maybe one of the moles from the village could help. Let's rest for now tommorow you can show me the horde and we can begin stratizing.
( I don't think Swiftbane will respond so I have an idea for when you show me the horde.)

" I should be strong enough to send you to Salamandastron by tommorrow at the latest, Samkin, but I'll need to give you something that can establish you as a friend. They don't take kindly to strangers, but if you tell them that I sent you, and have proof to back it up, you shoud have no problems with them. " He paused and looked around the hut. The sun was going down, and it was hard to see. " Lictus" His staff emitted a bright flash, and the hut was filled with light. " I'll write a letter to Lord Russano, who is the current Badger Lord there, explaining everything. Give the letter to him, and brook no interference. Time is of the essence." He shook his head. "It is late, and we have a lot to do tommorow. I'll stand the first watch, then Samkin, then Fox Glove." Lord Stripetail

The letter will not be neccasary the sword of Martin will be my proof. You are sure you can teleport me it sounds very strenuous. I hope Brocktree comes straight here the badger lords don't really get along with other badgers if the legends are true. Samkin stopped short of what he was saying and turned to look at rosey. Turning back to Stripe he said "Maybe you could teleport Rosey instead she needs a home the hares at salamandastron would welcome her with open arms.

" The letter will help you, Samkiin, so take it along anyway. If you don't need it, then that's all well and good. Teleporting someone is indeed strenuous, but I've done it before, so I know what I'm doing. As for the Badger Lords, you are right, they do argue with each other, that's why a Badger Lord leaves his mate and children behind when he leaves for Salamandastron. I myself have witnessed such arguments personally, so I know the uneasiness a Badger Lord feels in the company of another Badger Lord. So yes, Brocktree should come here." He looked over at Rosey. " I think Rosey should have a say in where she goes. That is only fair." Rosey stirred."Besides, she has a home with us, at least for now. It's your turn to stand watch." Lord Stripetail

ooc sorry I haven't been posting for a bit...I didn't have access to my computer for a little while
ic Fox Glove shifted restlessly where she lay. It was difficult to sleep with the knowledge of meeting a fully armed vermin horde soon. She forced her eyes shut, knowing she'd need the rest and tried to sleep.

Samkin nodded and walked outside. He took his bow and notched an arrow to it. He turned to a tree stump 30 yards away and aimed down the shaft. He let the arrow fly it flew like a pike through water towards it's target. It struck the stump dead center. Before a noise could be heard, another arrow shot from the bow. 18 more arrow s followed this one, each hitting the target. he walked over and began the strenuous job of removing the arrows. He walked back to the hut the others were sleeping in and began to resharpen his arrows. He sat for a few minutes when he heard a voice "Thoit was sum gurt shurtin there zur." Samkin turned to see a mole standing there. Samkin replied to his compliment in a jolly voice " Aye it took me 5 seasons to learn that. I take it you are one of the residents." "Wot if oy am." replied the mole. "Then you toget to meet my friends." said Samkin. The mole simply replied "Serpently zur." smkin walked into the shack and woke Stripe. Samkni whispered in his ear as to not wake the young ones " There is a mole outside."

Stripetail, who had been nodding off, came fully awake. "He must be one of the moles who escaped. Let him in. I have a few questions to ask him." Lord Stripetail

Samkin left the room and came back a second later with the mole. He immediatley turned around to go resume his watch.
