The garter snake started moving inthe direction the young one had pointed, saying casually over his shoudler. "You can call me Gold Seam, or whatever else is easy on your tongue.."

Taint nodded as another strike of thunder rumbled through the clouds. He shouted over the rain hitting hard against the rock: "Don't you think we should find some shelter?" He took Taggle off of his shoulder and pulled him close to his tunic in order to keep the little one warm.

"Yes, just this way..." Gold Seam took a sharp turn and shot through a bare scrub bush. Ahead, in the direction he was headed, was a part f the ruins that had collapsed in such a way, that it formed a servicable, albeit, rugged cave. "I can't say it's to my taste," the snake began, stopping under the slab of stone, "but I've seen other furred beasts make camp here.. it seems to be dry enough for your kind.." The snake had coild up, so his entire body was in the dryness under the fallen statue. When he looked up, the face of a long fallen statue looked down on him, with huge, moss-eaten eyes. The arm of the same figure lay severed nearby, a lantern carved into the giant paw.

Taint stopped under the the slab of rock and kneeled down, letting Taggle roam free around the small cave. It was big enough so that Taint could stand up in it. "Thanks, mate." He said to Gold Seam. "I really owe you one." He pulled out some flint from his pack and found some dry grass lying around the cave and made a small but warm fire. He took a couple of pears out of the pack also and gave one to Taggle and kept one for himself. He turned to the snake. "You eat pears, mate?"

Gold Seam laugh, stretching his elastic jaw. "No, no thank you, Taint.. I've got a fondness for fish, not for fruit.." The snake's smooth head turned to scan the gathering puddles outside of the shelter. With his keen sight temperarily impared, he couldnt identify the fat raindrops from minows in the nearby brooke. "I'll be a glad beast when I shed this tight skin..." talking mostly to himself, the snake shifted where he lay. Rubbing coils against coils, he tested to see if his skin was ready to come loose.

Taint felt uneasy in the silence, the only sound being the crackling of the fire. He took out his sword and a rag from his pack, shining the sword the prevent boredness. "I saw a stream near here. If you haven't eaten lately, I can go get some fish. Many of them travel upstream when in rains, because worms usually fall into the water while being drawn out."

"I think I'm fine at the moment," Gold Seam replied, with a slight grunt as he reared up and rubbed his cheek along the rough stone. The dry skin started to peel away, and he slowly worked it down his body. It was a slow proscess, but when the shedding began to peel away, he was brilliant and smooth. He wore two, yellow stripes along his back, whereas before, it had all been grays and browns. As he slipped his talk away, he left the skin, insideout and knoted between a pair of sticks. His eyes were clear now as well, and he looked up at them clearly for the first time. "Ah, much better.. "

Taggle, who had previously been exploring the small cavern like area, now stood there, eyes wide. He had never seen anybeast do that, ever.

Taint smiled as the rain pitter-patted outside. He thrust his paws over the fire and placed his broadsword by it, watched the fires reflection flicker on the blade. "Who goes there?" A voice boomed in the cave. The relaxing mood was startled and Taint leapt up, blade in paw.

Taggle turned around, frightened. He was now to scared for words. Maybe it was a foebeast, or the black robed creatues he had seen earlier...

Taint slowly bent down and picked up the shivering Taggle, placing him on his shoulder. "If I start to run, hold on to me, mate..." He turned toward Gold Seam. "Seam, what is going on here?"

The snake was standing tall, straight as a stick. "It's back..." he hissed quietly. "Stay low friends... It will see you, far easier then me.." He slid backwards until he was almost invisible under the leaves, his black and yellow head patruding only slightly.

Taint nodded and pulled Taggle down so that the two were laying low on the ground. He looked forward, waiting to see the creature that dwelled deep in the cave. A big, burly bear wandered out from the darkness, his ivory white teeth gleaming in the firelight. "Fools!" He boomed. The bear rose up on his hind legs, showing his power. He lay eyes on the snake. "Gold Seam...what have you brought upon my cave? You know how I hate visitors." he snarled. But he descended back to four legs.
