In the morning as the sun rises, an elderly fox stands working amongst rubble. He is no ordinary fox, for he is black to a regular fox's red. A silver-white cross starts at the back of his neck and travels down to the base of his tail. As the fog vanishes in the morning sun, more beasts are revealed. Some, including the fox, are in chains. Others carry spears, axes, cutlasses, and wear armor. One stoat carries a whip, for he is the slavemaster. They stand in the shadow of an old castle, forboding but inviting. As the fox moves some more rocks and dirt, he hears screaming. He stops and turns for a second, to see a young mouse being whipped for not working. Sighing to himself, the fox continues his work.

Bane held a paw to his eyes as the sun glanced off the rocks. He winced as he heard the cries of the mouse, and silently made his way down the rocky slope. Smaller rocks and debris tumbled down before him, as he gathered speed. He hit the flat ground at a run. Sweeping wide around a smaller mound of rocks, he shouted, a paw on the small cookknife in his belt. "Stoat! Take your paws from that mouse, and face me as if you had spine!"

The stoat turned abrubtly, then called for the gaurd. "We've got a strangebeast here! Call the Captain of the Gaurd!" A ferret came over to the stoat and coversed with him for a few seconds. "Go alert Lord Excervus"

Bane watched the two beasts with a sharp sidelong glare, unable to hear them. He fingered the small, cheap knife in his belt. It was obvious it would be of little or no use in a fight. Letting his gaze linger only a moment longer, he snapped his eyes in the direction of the shakled slaves. He padded over, keeping a steady eye on the stoat and the ferret all the while. Acting fast, he knelt down over the chain connecting the beasts nearest to him and drove the small knife in between the links and started to pry at it with all his might. The link started to bend, but then, with a matalic clang, the knife broke off and went spinning into the rocks nearby. The tawny wolf looked at it for half a second. With a snarl, he dropped the twisted handle on the ground and bent the link oipen the rest of the way.
Once he'd worked it apart, he stood up and gave the beast beside him, the old fox, a clipped salute.
"Will you alow me to lead you and your fellows from this place, sir?"

A short, extremely paranoid looking weasel came walking out of the castle. He wore armor with a bloody claw etched into the chest. On his cloak was the same symbol, only in the center of a black circle. He saw the wolf picking the lock of one of the slaves. "Halt, beast!" He motioned to the gaurds around him. ___________________________________________________________________________
The elderly fox looked at the wolf. "That's not a good sign. We will gladly let you lead us out of this place, but your efforts might be in vain. It looks like they're summoning more soldiers."

The wolf's gaze darted back and forth, watching the weasel's guards approach. "Then lets not hesitate my friend," he said pulling the chain loose from the fox's shackles. It clattered coldly on the rocks, then the wolf turned to face the guards. Looking around casually, Bane held up his paws and spoke in a calm, camanding voice, "Hang on comrades! Let me explain!"

The weasel came jjup close enough to look at the wolf. "Hmm.....What to explain?" A door clangs open somewhere around the castle, causing the weasel to jump, then shudder. ___________________________________________________________________________
"They're not really intelligent." the fox murmurred under his breath to the wolf. "Ironically enough, I've been working here for at least a season and a half, but I have never seen the ruling beast."

The wolf twisted an ear to listen descretly to the fox's words. He winked, then spoke to the weasel with a humble bow. "Sir, I'm sorry for I disagreeumptions," he looked the creature in the eye and spoke clearly, "I was under the impression that you had recieved my message. Has my messenger failed to deliver?"
Behind his cool smile, Bane thought fast, hoping against hope that he could talk his way out of this. Now totally unarmed, he wondered if it was wise to come... wise? not his cup of tea.. but whatever he had going for him would have to do.

"What messenger?" The weasel started talking to the other gaurds to get info on recent messengers. He turned back to the wolf. "No messengers. Whera you from?"

Bane snapped his fingers. Setting his paws on his hips he shook a fist, pretending to curse the name of whoever failed to deliver.
"That lazy whelp!... Ahh, sorry friends," he turned his paws upward in bewilderment. "At any rate, I am Captian Wolfbane, I was sent here by my lord, his highness..." He let his eyes flit acrosss the ground at his feet, sighting the broken knife, "Softsteel! Lord Softsteel sent me to ask a favor of his allys." His request was that you might lend him enough slaves, mayhap, two dozen, to aid in the building of his new warship?"
Before the weasel answered, Bane looked pointedly at the fox. Lifting a paw to scratch his nose, he mouthed, 'get ready to run.'

The weasel stared for several moments. "Never heard of a softsteele before......Wait here while I ask Lord." The weasel went to ask the ruler of the castle. ___________________________________________________________________________
The fox watched the weasel leave. "We must go now. If he gets Excervus, we're doomed." The fox motined for the other loose slaves. "When I signal, run and don't look back." He turned back to the wolf. "What about you, sir?"

Bane laughed, "I'm done playing the hero here. Let us run to my ship." He started trotting back the way he'd come. Picking up speed slowly, he looked back to see who was coming.

Smashing an incoming gaurd in the face with the chain around his wrist, the fox siignaled the other loose slaves and darted off after the wolf. He turned to see about a score of soldiers after them.

"The Four Winds.." Bane hissed, looking back at the soldiers who followed. Reaching the rockey slope, he picked up a sizable stone and flung it with a gruff grunt. It smashed into the thick of the soldiers, bringing a surprised squeal and grunt from whoever it struck.
He hefted another rock, and continued, working his way up the hill as he pelted them.

Grabbing some rocks, the fox started lobbing them at their pursuers, climbing fast enough to catch up to the wolf. "Sir, I know of a place they wouldn't dare follow us."
