it is a temporary reunion ' martin said firmly, his eyes giving off a piercing glare. it was a glare ladorak had seen before, but not this intense.. ' yes i had no descendants, by badrangs intervention. other wise i would have had several. After i left noonvale i kept on going, and would have kept going if i had not been captured near kotir. fate again, stepping in..any other questions, stoat? the seer knows all of this of course, in fact i wouldn't swear hes not some relic from our time..' the spirit chuckled.

"I... apologize again, for my ancestor's actions." he stated, shaking his head in a sad manner. "It should not have occurred that way. Personally, it's one of the reasons I never did like my fellow mustelids. I myself come from a nation where woodlanders and vermin work together, and no two of us are on unequal footing." He had even more of a history to relate, but that would come later.
"I cannot think of any for the moment... only to apologize once again. My life was ruined several times over... so perhaps I'm suffering for what my ancestor did to you many generations ago." he said, frowning a little in thought.

well, such a burden would be hardest on the immediate family, not this far down the line" rose pointed out. ' your suffering comes not from the horrible acts of a long-dead ancestor, but the evil you have encountered in your own life. we cannot help you there ladorak.. we are both long dead, and any case firmly tied to our homes.." " i have accomplied Redwallers on journeys before, but likely not where you are from ladorak.. you are very different from Badrang, I knew his malice and cruelty first hand, and his final act was the cruelest.. but i saw to it personaly that he would never harm anyone else ever again after that act." martin said, getting up from his chair. ' you are the first stoat i have appeared to in many generations, i will probably not visit another one again for a long time. nowi must return to watching over my abbey. he went over to rose, hugged her and kissed her, and then turned away from her ' until we see each other again martin.' rose said a note of sadness in her voice. ' hopefully our next reunion will be a longer one, but unfortunately we will never be permanently reunited. " Martin said as he stepped towards the door. "Farewell Seer, for the present. ' he said vanishing and leaving Rose alone with them.

Ladorak listened to this all, and he nodded as he knew it must be true. Evil in his own life... he wasn't sure about evil, but he had most certainly experienced misfortune aplenty.
"I can take responsibility for the things that went wrong, though yes, much of it was out of my control." he confessed. "I hope one day to run into you again, as you're right, you probably won't be appearing to many stoats any time soon." the stoat admitted.
He looked at the mouse who remained, Rose, and decided to ask her what had been on his mind this whole time. "So... why can't you ever join him? I assumed that death united everyone under its umbrella... why are you unable to stay with him?"

because we are both tied to our homes ' rose replied ' if i was moved here and reburied, then we could be united forever. but i doubt Noonvale will ever allow my body to be moved, i've become a symbol to them, a symbol they would never want to part with. much like redwallers would never allow martin to be reburied in noonvale, no matter how much our relationship meant to each other, what martin did durig his life for mossflower completely overwhelms any claim noonvale might have on him. he only stayed a short time in noovale, and swore after my death to never return..hes kept that promise, in the thousands of years since our time, he has never returned. Everyone gatheres at dark Forest, at least those who were good in life, but they often do not stay there, especially if they are very tied to thier homes, as i was and Later martin was..Rose added.

He folded his arms and thought over her words. "I see... so you must be buried near the person you wish to spend the afterlife with... that is unusual, but I suppose it makes sense too. I will have to make note of that... and choose my own burial place carefully." He said. He looked over at Stripetail now. "Tell me... do you know any more of my past? After I left Ublaz behind for example." he stated, wishing to see just how much the squirrel knew.
He began moving about to straighten things up, in order to begin the cleaning process as he listened.

Some.. you were originally from the south, and were very properous there. Having a good pportion of Ublaz's fortune helps.Upheaval, however has sent you north. Perhaps you are simply trying to regain what fate has taken from you. The fates work in ways you might not expect..' Stripetail said ' do you have anything more to ask of Rose.

"Upheaval." here, his face fell. "Yes... and perhaps I am. I'm not entirely certain... but I know of a few things I'd like to do. As for Rose." he looked over at her. "I'm glad to have met you. And I hope someday to better your name and make up for what my ancestor has done." He gave her a smile, and looked over again at Stripetail.

You have already done much on the latter..my name will never be forgotten thanks to those at Noonvale who had kept my memory alive..I wish I could have had a lifetime to spend with Martin, but then we would not be having this conversation here if that had come to pass..Farewaell ladorak.. Seer we will meet again.. farewell' rose's spirit vanished and the tempeture returned to normall.the painting looked like it was just an old canvas.. " what was the name of the area you came from " stripetail said. " i believe there was some sort of legendary treasure mixed in somewhere with your travels, correct?

"Well, several places." Ladorak explained. "After Sampetra, I was here. After that, I moved to Runfer United Nations. A large conglomeration to the north of here, it is the land of my parents. After that, I washed up in the Vulpine Imperium... which I left a few years ago. I'm not sure if it was a legendary treasure... it's a legendary island, called Askilonia. Some say it has a treasure on it, greater than any to ever exist. It's supposed to be an island of magic, if you've ever heard of it." he continued.

Ashkolia.. Stripetail sighed it supposed to be located somewhere south of the Disappearinmg ilses. " according to legend, and ancient and powerful wizard named Danakor The Wise buried his family fortune along with many powerful magic objects. only those with pure hearts and great magical power could seek the resture. but an terrible evil named Mertavius soon threatened Danakors lands , Danakor, sank the island, and took its location with him to his grave, for mertavius overran his lands and wiped him and his family out a short time later. given the ages since he buried the treasure, it will have increased in value many many times over, the magic irself is priceless, as it dated to a era early in Aestoricas history. So, yes i know about it' Stripetail finished.

Ladorak could only stare, wide eyed, as Stripetail basically laid his entire reason for being shipwrecked out before him. "My... word. By the Dark Forest. I see!" he said. "That certainly makes sense... and also explains why the Dillsweld Alliance violated a 200 year old treaty. This fortune... AND magic objects... I can hardly believe it but... that sounds right. Yes... that would be why they were after the ship I was on. Except they were duped... they never DID get the key. It was a fake, from what I understood." he said, biting his lower lip.
"What about Mertavius? Did he die? This was a very long time ago, so I can't imagine he's still alive." the stoat commented, musing over this.

Yes he is dead. i should know, because i defeated him in magical battle and stripped him of all his powers. a magician dies if they lose thier powers in battle' Stripetail said." it was a tremendous struggle as you might imagine, as mertavius was almost indescribably powerful, whats more he had many thousands of years of experience on me, but I somehow managed to defeat him, and get rid of him..It took me a long time to fully absorb his power..and much of it I have never used..out of principle. perhapsd it is his powers that have kept me alive so long, or perhaps it is simply fate requiring me to continue.. either way. i live on..200 years is a long time, butnot compared to how long the treasure has been missing. " stripetail said sitting down in a chair.

"Yes... indeed." the stoat said with a nod. "I wonder though... if this key were located... would it reveal the path to Askilonia?" he asked, more to himself than to Stripetail. "Have you... ever considered looking for this island?" he asked, looking over at the squirrel now, rather in awe at the battle that had transpired between the two.

No, I have not. Too much power and wealth can corrupt..Would I like to find it.. yes I would..The Money, my share at least, would go into my Aestorican account, just increasing the amount of money sitting there gathering interest. as for the key.. it could, but it would take magical power to tune the key to its location..
