" One way up north. Da vermin got it now though." he said. " Papa's gone...Mama too... they'll be back someday.... won't dey?" he asked, looking up at her striped head. ( he is so young he doesn't understand the concept of death. He can't ask you about being an orphan because he doesn't understand. His parents are dead but to him they won't just wake up.) ( when loyal and hitchaw get back we'll need to remove that arrow. that will be painful.. taggle will have to be knocked out. Or he will pass out from the pain anyway.)

(Sorry I was slow on the reply, had friends over...)
Bravespirit was caught off guard by Taggle's question, and she blinked a few times in surprise. Now, wot am I supposed t' tell 'im? I don't know wot exactly happened, so I don't know if the mite's parents are alive or not. She thought, and hesitated for quite some time before answering. What if she told him no and his parents were not truly dead? Or if she told him yes and got his hopes up when they were slain? "I don't know." Bravespirit answered finally, her dark eyes moving away from Taggle and staring off into space. That was the best answer I could think of. And the most truthful. The badger told herself, assuring herself this was the best way to answer that question.

(XD Should I be scared?)
Bravespirit felt a lot older then she was, listening to Taggle's questions about her life and answering them with as much maturity as she had. The badger pondered this for a moment. It had not been long since she stopped playing with toys and started practicing battle moves, so she remembered easily. "Well...my Papa once made a tiny little sailboat for me to play with. I would put it in a slow river, or creek, or wotever was nearby, and so how fast it could go. I think that was me favorite toy." Bravespirit said. Th' Quicksilver is wot I called it. She thought. "Then once when I was playing with it by the sea, it went out to far and I never saw it again." The badger said, frowning thoughtfully.

( no.. amazed is more like it.) Taggle thought about this. I hadda sailboat, but it was biggerer. me an papa went one it. Now i got's this though (PREPARE FOR A MAJOR PLOT LINE ADVANCEMENT! that will be all..lol) he said holding a small multi colored stone up for her to see. Then as the sunlight caught the front an amazing thing happened. The sun shone through the back of the stone.. and it spelled out words. they went like this.
" Where sun and stone meet , follow him over the world, across the rim. All the way to hepanix.
After that, the island of stone with a palace, made of bone. Here the stone will find its home Beware the killers. ere they roam.
Sail by dawns ascending beam, follow the starr, for it was his dream Wonderous things do await For those willing to tempt lady fate" ( i spelled star like that on purpose.. it is part of the riddle.. taggle is to young to read. hepanix should give you some idea what it is if you ask him though lol.)

Bravespirit was taken aback by the sudden appearance of the riddle, and she blinked her dark eyes several times in surprise. "Wot's this then?" The badger said, more to herself then Taggle. She held the otterbabe in the crook of one arm, and she moved her free paw in front of the stone. The letters disappeared. Bravespirit took her large paw away, and the letters came back. The badger tipped her striped head to one side in puzzlement, and read it aloud, muttering the words. "Hepanix...never heard that word afore." She said, mystified to what this meant. It did not occur to Bravespirit's simplistic mind that she should ask Taggle if he had heard this rhyme or...riddle...or whatever it was, before.

Taggle jumped. If bravespirit hadn't been holding on to him so tight, he probabally would have fallen to the ground. " h-hepanix?!" he squeaked, more than a hint of fear in his voice. Hepanix.. worse than ever other scary thing Taggle had known in his life.. and that included the vermin that had captured him! Taggle began to shake.

Bravespirit moved her free paw to steady Taggle, a bit worried he might jump again. "Wot? Ye' know wot it is?" The badger asked in confusion, her dark eyes expressing extreme puzzlement and slight worry. Whatever it was did not mean a good thing to the otterbabe, and right now, that was good enough reason for her to dislike it. "Easy now Tagg." Bravespirit murmured, feeling Taggle's small body shake like a leaf in the wind. Now, wot could scare the mite so bad? Is hepanix a ghost story from 'is holt or somethin'? The badger thought, her young mind not able to consider anything else. Boy, I wish Loyal were here, he'd prolly know wot it is. Bravespirit thought.

He spoke softly, as if saying it out loud might cause it to appear. " hepanix is a sea monster. biggerer dan da whole holt! it eat you 'live for sure!" he said, still shaking. " papa told me 'out it. issa scary! it live way way cross da ocean. me an papa knows how to get to it though..." ( how are we going to get the arrow out of him? and he wont let you touch it.. gonna need to knock him out. you decide how lol. when r loyal and hitchaw gonna join us?)

(I'm not sure...Loyal at the moment is still frozen with his rapier point inches from Grimscale's body XD)
Bravespirit listened, and a small smile played across her face. I was right then. Some monster story. The badger thought, snorting softly. Now, despite her immature nature, Bravespirit and Loyalheart had been raised to believe there was no such thing as ghosts or monsters, and she stuck to that belief. "No need t' be 'fraid o' it Tagg! It's a sea monster, it can't get us here." Bravespirit assured the otterbabe, trying her best to calm the youngster down. "'sides! There ain't no such thing as monsters." The badger said, a bit more gruffly this time. That prolly won't convince him if he's anything like me when I believe somethin'. She thought, still smiling faintly as she recognized her stubborn streak.

"nonono. we seed it! when we were out on da ocean. It allus roams a oceans, and guards sumfink. papa wouldn't tell me what is it though. but i seed it! bigger dan da whole holt! taggle almost gorra eated alife!" he said, remembering that horrible day he met the hepanix. " deres ony one way to get to it.." he said, still shaking, a little less now though. Unfortunately shaking made the arrow in his arm push deeper and draw more blood, and he was physically forced to stop. The hepanix deeply scared taggle.. and so did the arrow in his arm.

Now Bravespirit was still skeptic. "Are ye' sure ya' jus' weren't playin' a game when ya' saw this...thing?" The badger asked, tipping her head to one side. This was all very interesting and...slightly strange to her. When she and her family were traveling, she had heard stories about sea monsters before from the occasional otter or other seabeast, countless tales of sea serpents with mouths that could swallow whole ships and still have room for more, but she never, ever believed them. And Bravespirit knew from experience that youngsters played games, and sometimes would make it all seem very, very real. The badger cringed as she noticed more blood oozing out of Taggle's arrow wound.

Taggle grimaced in pain. "yes.." he said slowly, fighting the pain. " papa made me go below a decks inna cabin..he sayed dat if it hit da ship, dat part wud be safe." taggle said, beggining to feel dizzy. he suddenly looked very pale. Taggle looked around the woods, listening to the birds sing their evening songs. ( if you have questions about any pther part of the riddle ask taggle.. he may not know though.)

Bravespirit's smile faded, and was replaced by a thoughtful frown. The badger tipped her head to one side, a habit she had when she was thinking. Sounds real 'nough, but I won't believe it. She thought stubbornly. "Well, sorry mate but I'm not sure I believe ya'." Bravespirit said truthfully, being brutally honest, as she often was. The female noticed Taggle's sudden change of color, and her brow creased with worry. I hav'ta get that arrow out 'fore it causes anymore damage, but I don't think 'e'll let me do it. She thought worriedly, not willing to knock the otterbabe out in order to remove the arrow. It did not occur to her that Taggle's condition might get fatal if he kept losing blood.
