"Ah ya, but jus about anytings better than food off a vermin crewed ship, no offense meant. But a few years back I was captured fer a bit, actually UI let me'self git captured. I worked as a slave, workin the oars an such. But I took em by surprise, me an the slaves took the ship over and headed for shore." He pointed towards the direction the sea was,"Near Salamandstron is where we landed, we scuttled the ship an anded the crew over ta lord Strongstripe." he smiled and grabbed a fish for himself and took a bite.

As Earthpelt listened to Hitchaw, her dark eyes began to wander around the area. Her small ears twitched at hearing Hitchaw's story, and her eyes went back to him. The young ferret wrinkled her nose at the mention of oar slaves. "I never liked beasts 'ho used slaves. If they're a real pirate they don't need slaves t' do th' work fer 'em." The dark furred ferret said thoughtfully, thinking back to her Father's ship for a moment. He had refused to allow goodbeasts aboard, much less any slaves. But Earthpelt had seen other corsairs with slaves aboard, and true to what she told Hitchaw, she never liked the idea of it. The youngster suddenly missed life aboard her Father's ship, but she quickly dismissed the feeling.

"Now thats good ta hear. I ain't ever met no vermin corsair that wouldn't want anay slaves on is or er ship." He nodded and took another bite of his fish,"That jus makes you even igher on me good side." He similed and finished his fish throwing the bones into the bushes.

A short burst of coarse laughter came from Earthpelt's throat, and the youngster shook her head slightly. Huh, slaves. Stoopid t' 'ave slaves. Jus' more mouths to feed an' they're more likely t' rebel, an' what's th' point in takin' a creature that'll 'scape? The dark furred ferret thought, and her mind wandered to for a moment. Would she ever get a chance to command a vessel of her own? Prolly not. Earthpelt dismissed the idea. "Now ye' 'ave so's ya' can't say that anymore." She said, grinning slightly. Earthpelt followed Hitchaw's example and tossed the bones of her fish into the bushes. It occurred to her that she should thank the otter for allowing her to eat some of his fish. "Er...thank ye' fer the grub 'itchaw." She said uncertainly.

"There no need ta thank me, I said it once I can nay turn donw nay a ungry beast. Vermin or not." He nodded and turned around searchin in his pack for somthing."Where are they? I know I did nay drink em...Ahaha!" He pulled out two flasks filled with a speacial brew of straberry, cherry, and bannana wine. Redstripe brought some back from the island of the shrews that helped raise him. He tosed one to Earthpelt,"Eres somtin ta wash the fish down with mate."

The dark furred ferret snagged the flask swiftly as it came toward her and briefly examined it. Friendly beast ain't 'e? Earthpelt thought to herself, almost glad she had been left behind. Nay, don't tell yoreself that lass, yew still got a while t' stay 'ere, wait 'till ye' been 'ere a while afore decidin' ye' like et 'ere. The youngster told herself harshly. Earthpelt opened the flask and sniffed the liquid hesitantly before taking a swig. The dark furred ferret lowered the flask, rolling the drink in her mouth before swallowing. "Huh, shore tastes good after a week or two with nothin' but a few drops o' water." She commented with wry amusement as she remembered her brief imprisonment, a small, crooked smile on her face.

"Ya got htat right mate." He popped the cork out on his flask and took a drink,"But fer a awile this is all I got, tain't much, but its satisfyin. I ave ta go back to redwall ta get more but thats a good couple o days walk." He rubbed his forehead and sighed,"But I do ave a small hollow, I foun dis tree thas hollow an it goes down into the bank, and empties out inta a small cave. It musta been some creatures den years afore I got ere, cause it was in shambles a disrepair." He pointed towards the forest, away from the sea,"Theres a river just over yonder where I found it."

Earthpelt took another drink, silently pondering why Hitchaw was telling her all this. It all sounded strange to her, for she was not much of a land beast and preferred the rolling waves of the sea. It occurred to her that this might be his way of saying she should leave now. Huh, if 'e wants me gone 'e'll 'ave t' jus' say so. Earthpelt thought rebelliously. The dark furred ferret's dark brown eyes left Hitchaw and wandered over the area around her. The feeling that this was not your ordinary forest came back to Earthpelt. Wot's so special 'bout this place anyhow? She thought. She had heard stories told about this Redwall from other corsairs and the occasional stranded goodbeast, but never had the full story.

Hitchaw grinned looking at her,"Ya ever eard of Redwall?" He chuckled,"Do ya want ta go there? I could take ye, tis a good march but the ospitallity is great."

(Apologies in advance for this post, it's nearly 1:00am here so I'm tired XD)
Earthpelt's dark brown eyes snapped back to Hitchaw, and she could not help but give him the 'are you crazy?' look. "Aye, I've 'eard o' Redwall. 'Nough t' know vermin like me wouldn't exactly be welcomed wit' open arms." The dark furred ferret said dryly, absentmindedly swirling the flask of wine in her paw. Yes, she had heard some stories about vermin trying to get their way into the sandstone Abbey, and none of them ended very well, to say the least. An' I ain't lookin' forward t' dyin' anytime soon, thank ye' very much. The youngster thought with an inward scoff. No matter 'ow miserable I feel 'bout bein' 'ere. She added. Earthpelt took another drink, and silently, grudgingly, admitted to herself that she was grateful to the otter.

"They won't kill ye as long as yer with me, eck they had ole Ripfang in there an e's a wolf. But e's an alright beast. Jus so long as ye don't try ta urt no beast or steal anythin, ya should be perfectly safe." He nodded,"An trust me they wouldn't turn ye away. I mean me fosta father Redstripe, e's part wolverine an they let im in."

The dark furred ferret listened stubbornly to Hitchaw, and her small ears flicked once he finished. Steal anythin', huh! I won't 'urt anyone, shore, but wot's th' point in askin' if ye' can jus' take et? Earthpelt thought, taking another drink. Once she lowered the flask she looked down thoughtfully at the wine. Still, might be a good way t' see some o' this area. She told herself. 'Sides, I ain't done nothin' wrong yet, maybe I can keep et up fer a while. The youngster thought with a inward grin. She looked decisively up at the otter in front of her. "If ye' willin' t' travel with a ferret, aye, I'll come." The dark furred ferret said. A good march eh? 'ope I don't step on 'nother one o' them thorns. Earthpelt thought.

"I got nay a problem with travellin wit a ferret. If yer a good beast you can be rat, ferret, weasle, fox, or wolf an I won't care." He smiled warmly,"Besides, It gits lonely walkin by yer lonesome ta Redwall." He stood up and brushed himself off,"But lucky fer us, i got me a raft." He turned and waited for Earthpelt to get up before continuing.

Earthpelt scoffed lightly when Hitchaw said any vermin could turn out to be a goodbeast. Huh, I'm not a murderer, aye, but I certainly ain't no goodbeast. She thought, but kept her thoughts to herself, an unusual thing for her to do. Her small ears pricked up at the mention of a raft. It's not a vessel on th' open sea, but it'll 'ave t' do! The dark furred ferret thought with a prick of excitement. Earthpelt stood up, and her cutlass clanked against the ground as she moved. The youngster silenced it with a paw upon the hilt. Her dark brown eyes went up to the otter. "Then I'm ready when ye' are mate!" The dark furred ferret said enthusiastically, her crooked smile creeping across her face.

"Aye well then foller me." He pushed some underbrush aside and stopped,"Don't silence yer weapon, it makes ya seem suspicious, an ifin it makes noise twill keep theives away." He stepped through the bushes and walked towards the sound of the river.
