"Yea, theres some poisenous berries, some have little prickly airs that ill make ya sick." He pointed towards shore at a small bush with little blueberries,"Those are safe ta eat, but they ain't tin season yet." He nodded,"Most of the stuff in ma sack is edible, cept fer me armor an extra tunic." He laughed a little and looked ahead, the water was getting a little ruffer.

Earthpelt listened carefully as the otter spoke. After all, this was something she was going to have to learn if she was to live on land, even if it was just for a little while. The dark furred ferret chuckled softly at Hitchaw's joke, and also noticed the waters were becoming a tad rougher. She drew herself up to her paws and walked toward the otter, making sure she was not blocking his line of sight. "Say, is there somethin' I can do t' 'elp?" She asked cautiously, casting her dark brown eyes around the build of the raft. It ain't big, but there's gotta be somethin' fer me t' do other then sit an' watch th' water. Earthpelt thought, glancing down into the water before looking back up at Hitchaw.

"Ya, watch fer rocks, branches, an even vermin raidin crews. Things that ill slow or stop us." He gripped the rudder tighter as the water got ruffer, trying to force the raft out of control.

At the answer from Hitchaw, Earthpelt, partly out of habit and partly just playing around, straightened, put her knuckle to her brow in a small salute. "Aye, aye Cap'n 'itchaw!" She said smartly, her crooked smile spreading across her narrow face. The dark furred ferret then wandered to the front of the raft, or as close as she could get without falling in, knelt down so the otter could also see what was happening and watched the water rush by, her dark brown eyes on the lookout for exactly what Hitchaw had told her to. Rocks, branches that had fallen into the river, and...vermin raiding crews? Huh, what good can ye' possibly git from a tiny vessel like th' ones that prolly come by 'ere all th' time?

"Haha! Ifin I'm da capin, that make you da first mate, since there ain't no other beast on the craft." He let out a jovial laugh that was cut short when an arrow landed in the wood by his foot,"Figurs, ere come the vermin." He sighed and looked at the arrow,"Redeyes gang again? Don't they eva learn?" He shook his head,"Ey Earthpelt, the raiders are ere, but don't worry, they're armless." He laughed a little, he had severed a few of their arms, some still had one.

Earthpelt laughed as well. "Prolly th' best title I've 'ad!" She said, referring to the 'first mate' comment. But her laughter, like Hitchaw's, was cut short, and she jumped in surprise at the sound of the arrow thudding into the deck, and nearly fell into the water in front of her. Pay attention lass! She snarled at herself, steadying herself, but not getting to her paws. Give 'em a smaller target. The dark furred ferret thought. Her dark brown eyes traveled across the area in front of her, searching for where 'Redeye's Gang' was. "Where they comin' from 'itchaw" Earthpelt asked, mystified on how he knew who was attacking just by looking at an arrow shot. She rubbed the stump of her left ear in confusion.

"Prolly from evawhere." He sighed,"They jus don't give up. YA AIN"T NEVA GETTIN MA RAFT!!!"
"Gim ma da raft!" A short fat rat stood on the shore stomping and waving his arms, there were about twenty or so behind his twelve archers, and eight warriors wielden rusty swords an axes, a major feature was the red bandanas with red eyes on it, and the occasional missing limb."I wanna da rafta data you maaakad." The rat Redeye was brandishing a steel rapier that looked to expensive for him.

Earthpelt scoffed at the rat and stood up, took her cutlass from the belt around her waist and brandished it fiercely. Now, the youngster was not smart, and she certainly was not the type to hold her tongue when she should. "Why won't ye' come'n git et then?" She sneered, her dark brown eyes sparking with a challenge. Huh! Raiders? More like whinin' liddle whelps beggin' fer somethin' t' play wid. Earthpelt scoffed, raising her head high. The ferret was in her element now. Footpaws placed firmly on the deck of a watervessel, cutlass in paw, otherbeasts to taunt and tease and of course, the possibility of a fight. Ah, yes, this was the life she was used to, and she did not feel as awkward right now.

"Ima teach youngeh wee tiny gurl nat teh mess with I!" He leaped in the water,"Nay boss din't do it!" His group was yelling for him to come back but it was too late. He got halfway between the boat and the shore when three fines raced towards him,"NOOOO!! Isa fergits bout sharptoothy fishies!" He turned and swam towards shore but was caught in the teeth of the pike, all three tearing at him. His screams still echoed even after his body disappeared under the water.
"HAHAHAHAHA! Any others of ye want ta come ta ma vessel?" He laughed as the vermin on the shore turned and walked into the treeline,"Well that takes care of them, but there are still the ones that acually think. But thats way ferther up river." He started whistling again.

Earthpelt too, had forgotten about the pike, and was taken by surprise when the three fins barreled down on Redeye like wrathful bolts of lightning. Though most her age would wince at the sight of Redeye being torn apart by pike, the dark furred ferret had seen much, much worse before in her fairly short life. Instead, coarse laughter erupted from the youngster's chest. "If they're anythin' like their leader, they may think but only afta they leap eh?" Earthpelt said, shoving her cutlass back into he belt, believing the threat gone, at least for now. She knelt back down, her dark brown eyes traveling over the band of vermin along the shore, challenge still clear in her expression. I may be young but I've 'ad many things 'appen t' me.

Hitchaw stopped whistling and yawned,"I ave ta say don't git too comfortable. There are groups that ave boats ferther up the river." He sighed and looked up into the sky.I wish I couldfly, it would be great, sailing through the sky.

Earthpelt nodded in acknowledgment, her dark brown eye scanning the stream. "Don't worry 'bout me, this be wot I did alla time." The dark furred youngster said, thinking back to her days aboard the Spiderfang. Because she caused trouble with the other crewbeasts, she was often made a lookout, as it kept her from interacting with the others. Most of the time. It occurred to her that this was the first time since her Father's ship was destroyed, which had been about two months ago, that she had felt...at home. Contented was the word. Yes, a vermin like her, raised from birth for cold-blooded murder, was contented. Earthpelt wondered what her Father would say about all this.
