Earthpelt followed Hitchaw, just a few pawsteps behind the large otter. "Thieves? Har! I ain't afraid o' no thieves. That's wot th' cutlass is fer mate." She replied coldly, narrowing her dark brown eyes. I wouldn't mind meself a good fight anyhows. The dark furred ferret thought, toying with the blade at her side. Her ears perked at the sound of the chattering river, eager to get back to water. Though ferrets were not usually waterbeasts, Earthpelt loved it, and the youngster had even taught herself to swim. Now, she was not as graceful or fast as an otter or another waterbeast, but she could do it if she had to. Though a swim don't sound pleasin' at th' moment. Earthpelt thought, still smiling faintly.

"Aye nither am I, but the theives in this area usually travel in groups o about thirty or ferty. So jus a little bit of a eads up." He nodded as he bushed aside some more brush to reveal a deep fast running river."Now this ill git us almost all da way ta Redwall, twill jus be about a days march from the river pendin on ow fast we walk." He stepped onto the sandy and rocky riverside walking parralel to the river. He stopped at an unusually large bush and started tearing of the camoflauge revealling a flat bottomed one mast raft with a good sized cabin."Well ere she is, tain't much on de eyes but she is one of the best river craft. Ye can do a shore fishin in da sea with it too."

Earthpelt followed Hitchaw along the river, marveling at how swift the current was when there was no storm or wind to urge it along. "Huh, guess this place ain't as peaceful as it looks then eh?" The dark furred ferret muttered, more to herself then the otter in front of her. Once the raft was uncovered, the youngster wondered how on Earth Hitchaw knew how to hide things like that so well. When he said a beast could do shore fishing at sea, a brief notion popped into her mind. I could steal et once we git outta Redwall, then use et t' find another ship, 'twould be faster then walkin'. She thought, but quickly shoved the idea of stealing the raft out of her head. Nay, don't botch et now lass. The youngster thought.

Hitchaw moved to the front of the raft taking the rope and tieing it to a large tree."Alright now can ya elp me push it in the water?" He looked at Earthpelt and smiled,"Tis real eavy, an it goes a lot faster with two beasts a pushin." He put his paws of the front of the raft and bent his knees leaning into the raft and waited for Earthpelt.

Earthpelt smiled slightly to herself at the idea of being aboard a watervessal again, even if it was small. This is more like et, not jus' sittin' 'round chattin'. The youngster thought, happy to have something to do. I ain't used t' havin' nothin' t' do, there was always work t' be done aboard Papa's ship. Earthpelt thought with a pang of sadness. She quickly pushed those thoughts aside and focused on what was happening, flicking her small ears in annoyance with herself. "Aye, I'll 'elp!" She said enthusiastically, making herself sound cheerful. The dark furred ferret moved alongside of Hitchaw. She imitated his position and waited for the large otter beside her to give the word.

Hitchaw nodded,"Now push!" He pushed his muscles bulging with the strain, his face wrenching up, and his feet pushing dirt.

Earthpelt dug her footpaws deep into the sandy riverbank, almost losing her grip. But the dark furred ferret steadied herself, grunted softly and pushed the raft ahead with all the strength she could muster. Her expression became much like Hitchaw's, screwed up as she pushed. Now, she was not exceptionally strong, but time would change that and until she reached full size the ferret could manage. The dark furred ferret's dark eyes screwed shut. Aye, 'tis 'eavy, but et could be worse I suppose. She thought, thinking back to some of the work she had to do back on the Spiderfang for a brief moment. An' I was a pup an' 'e still 'ad me doin' things. Earthpelt thought, but made herself focus on the task at paw.

Hitchaw grinned and gave the boat a push mustering all his strength, the raft slid down the muddy slope into the water and the current caught it pulling it to the ropes end and stopped. Hitchaw laughed as he got up, mud all over him."Well looks like we pushed jus a lil too ard." He ran and jumped in the water and surfaced on the other side of the boat floating on his back,"Ahhhh, this is nice. Come on in and git to the boat."
(Gotta go I may Be back on tomarrow.)

(Alright! Bye!)
Earthpelt, already a bit unsteady, slipped as well, getting her front covered in mud. The dark furred ferret pushed herself up and cursed furiously under her breath. "I'm comin'." She grunted in ill temper, watching the large otter float along on his back. Huh, I could use a swim now. Earthpelt thought, and quickly followed Hitchaw into the water. The youngster was expecting it to be freezing cold, but to her surprise it was not. "Aye, it is." She agreed, and wandered farther into the water. But, doing as she was told, Earthpelt swam to one side of the boat and pushed herself up onto the deck. The dark furred ferret then shook her head, sending droplets of water from her facefur flying in all directions.

Hitchaw laughed and dived under the water and shot up into the air landing on the deck of the raft."Ok now, lets see." He went to the rear of the ship and lowerd the rudder into the water. He turned it testing it,"Everthings fine back ere." He checked the mast and the riggings."Alright I thing we're reada ta shove off." He ran to the front of the raft and sliced the rope that held to raft to shore. The current pulled the raft towards Redwall."Now we just ave ta ope we don't hit notin along the way."

Earthpelt blinked a few times, clearing water from her dark eyes. The dark furred ferret grinned suddenly as the raft began to move. "Feels nice t' be on a watercraft again." She said, walking from the bow to stern. Not as rough as th' sea, nay, but et's nice. The youngster thought. On a sudden whim, Earthpelt wandered over to the starboard side, plopped herself down and tucked one knee to her chest. The dark furred ferret's other footpaw dangled over the side and into the water. Now jus' keep an eye out fer rocks, don't want t' 'urt yoreself now. Earthpelt thought. "'ow long 'till we gotta walk 'itchaw?" The dark furred ferret asked, her dark eyes not leaving the river.

"Three, meybe four days. Pendin on ow fast we go an if we run inta trouble or not." He looked at her footpaw in the water,"Ye might not want ta do that. Theres pike in the water an they eat creatures like you an me." He pointed to the fins that were already racing towards the raft."Just a eads up." He walked to the rudder and plopped down putting his hand on it,"Lucky fer us tis a nice day."

Quick as a flash, Earthpelt's footpaw was brought back up to the deck at the mention of pike. The dark furred ferret smiled sheepishly. "Aye, otherwise I might not 'ave t' worry 'bout any more thorns in mah paws eh mate?" She said with a hearty chuckle, hiding her embarrassment well. The youngster realized she had forgotten all about her incident back in the woods. Earthpelt shrugged it off. I've 'ad worse 'appen t' me. The dark furred ferret thought, absentmindedly reaching up and touching the ragged stump that was left of her left ear. Earthpelt watched as the fins that Hitchaw had pointed out went in circles around the area where her footpaw had been. I need t' learn more 'bout woodland dangers. She thought.

"Hahaha! Thats a good en, but if those pike got old of ye foot paw, they would've yanked ye right inta the water." He started whistleing a traveling tune Redstripe tought him and nodded a little,"Oh ya, don't eat nothin without ma eads up, since you seem ta be lost with the whole land prospect. Lived in a ship yer ole life eh?"

Pulled me inta th' water? Fun... Earthpelt thought sarcastically, her foolish feeling returning. "Nay, not me 'hole life. Most o' et though." She answered, her paws absently toying with the shark tooth necklace around her neck. "Didn't spend much time on land, so's I never really learned wot would 'urt me and wot wouldn't." She explained. But I knew wot would 'urt me et sea, aye. Earthpelt added silently. The dark furred ferret's dark brown eyes flicked up to Hitchaw. "Ye' gotta watch wot yer eat? Stripe me...et really ain't as nice as et looks 'round 'ere." The youngster commented, looking back down into the water. The fins were gone now, but Earthpelt thought better of trying to dip her paws in again.
