"I never intended to make it personal... only against his cousin... because as I said... I'll never forgive her. As it stands, the remainder of her clan should be put to death, just to ensure that there won't be any problems in the future. As for the Emperor... I'll see how his family reacts. He has no offspring... so that should make things at least a little bit easier." He would balk at the idea of killing children, though he knew it was the vermin's way.
He had never been into his way as much as he could have been, and he felt he'd come out a better stoat because of that. "I can navigate on the sea when we travel that way. Land I can do a decent job of as well." he explained, noting the maps that Stripetail was grabbing. "Maps will of course be useful however, as even I'm not perfect with dead reckoning."

"Yes... I don't intend to kill any others aside from my targets. That's the sad way of it, but it has to be done. Especially the Emperor and his cousin." He said, a stern look crossing his features and remaining there.
"Well... I'm ready. I travel very lightly. I don't need much save for the things on my back and my sword at my side." he stated resolutely.

Meanwhile, down the road from the abbey, a tavern sits nearby to welcome weary travelers to rest. Behind it lays a cleared section of the forest to accumulate an organized orchard of trees and vineyards.
Within sight of the tavern walks a lone figure from the south, keeping a calm and steady stride to eventually reach the building and enter. Within, he sees a small daytime crowd of fellow travelers and resting orchard workers scattered about the room, either talking to each other or taking naps to sleep off the liqueur and the aches in their bodies.
Behind the bar, a fat ferret was cleaning his mugs and beer steins when he sees the newcomer. "Aye, welcome traveler," he said. "This here be the tavern owned by me, Tarnik Veristurm. What shall ye have, stranger?"
The figure removed his hood as he approached, revealing the calm and battle-wearied visage of a fox. He pulled out two coins. "What is your home special?" he asked.
Tarnik examined the coins before taking one of them. "Ah, this I have a special brew I made me self! Very popular 'round these parts! But it seems I have made too much, since those Redwallers are still recovering from me last batch last month. So for you, tis half-price today!"
The fox took back his coins, and gave a half-smile at the bartender's response. "You don't sound like you're from here either. The sea maybe?"
"Perhaps," Tarnik replied, as if taunting while he poured an alcohol into a mug. "But I'll tell you where if I could have your name, stranger..."
The fox gave a subtle joking snort at the response. "We'll leave it at that then..."
The ferret gave a hearty laugh and passed the drink to the fox. "To your health, me hearty!"
The fox's half-smile widened to keep from laughing as he took the drink and walked to a corner of the room to keep to himself...

Have you heard' one of the customers, a vole, said to Tarnik. the Seer's returned to redwall, from business of his own. I heard he went to Salmandastron to consult with the badger Lord and the lon' Patrol. Hes a strange squirrell that one, he looks like hes seen every season from the time the Abbey was built, hur hur. But don't tell him i said that..Seers are seers after all, he might predict doom for my grandvoles or some such/" the Vole whose name was Gribbins, said

Tarnik leaned closer on the counter. "Now answer me this, laddie," he replied. "Do ye think this seer can hear ye right now? Seers are seers after all..." He gave a smirk.
The fox looked up for a moment when he caught some of the conversation from his end of the room...

Well, have you ever met him ? My father did, and he said his fur stood on end afterward.. Most seers, to me, are just tricksters, they pretend to see what the fates have in store, or know the history of the creature they are talking to, but this one, oh this one, hes legit, he told my father the names and deeds of all his ancestors down twenty-five generations, and our family records only go back about ten or so, so my father went to the abbey to confirm it, and by the fates, he was right, about the names, and most likely about what they did too..." Gribbiins said.. " so what do you say to that barkeep?" he drank his ale slowly...." I mean, hes a good beast, never heard of him harming anyone.. except those who crossed him..you never cross seers mate..

"Very well." the stoat said. He started to move toward the door, knowing full well just what exactly the seer was capable of. He had to admit, it made him rather uneasy, traveling with someone so powerful, yet he also sensed the seer's responsibility as well.
He still hesitated though, paw hovering by the door handle. "I'm not sure..." He couldn't finish the sentence. There was no point in losing his nerve here. Pulling the door opened, he motioned toward the hallway. "Lead the way." he said.

Stripetail headed out of the room, carrying a knapsack slung across his back, and his staff held in his left paw.."Come along ladorak, we'll need to get to the tavern before dark, so we can begin planning our routes to the Imperium..

"Well I know what I think," a raspy-voiced shrew, sitting nearby, replied, "Methinks you've been drinking too much of that ale..."
A couple other 'bar flies' chuckled...
----------
In the courtyard of Redwall, by the fruit trees, a young squirrel was supposed to be picking fruit with the other children. Instead, in a section almost out of sight from the others, he's been practicing twirling a pair of short staffs around him...

Hur hUr very funny. i'm not one for telling yarns, not about that kind of stuff. telling stories about my granpa, thats a 'hole other story' Gribbins said said, then decided to change the subject. these folk wouldn't believe him, unless they saw the seer in action themselves, and probably not even then.. stripetail headed out of the great hall, carrying some food ' mellus had 'insisted' on giving them for the journey ' just some light supplies, so you won;t starve , you ole bag of bones' she had said with a laugh.. of course 'light' for redwallers would feed a small army for a couple seasons without problem, and given that it was only him and ladorak at the moment, they would be weighted down by this much food.

"Thank you, Mellus." Ladorak said as they received their supplies. Ladorak offered to stick some in a sack he'd picked up in the abbey, and they would soon be out of the Great Hall and into the courtyard.
As they exited into the light, the stoat squinted, looking his pince nez about him as he noticed the squirrel who was twirling the staffs. "Friend of yours?" he asked, pointing him out to Stripetail.

"Wha..." The squirrel was caught off guard by the surprise, and lost his footing, as well as his grip on one of his staffs, which twirled about in the air. But rather than hitting another youngling, an older otter caught the staff.
"Fighting the vermin hordes again?" the otter joked, joining the group.
The squirrel got to his feet, his other staff behind him. "Sorry, Master Geldor..."
"Your getting better, Merrik. But you pick your times between training and chores wisely." Geldor handed back the staff, before turning his attention to Stripetail. "Good morrow, Seer. I am Geldor, one of the Abbey defenders. And this pup is young Merrik, who might be my replacement as long as he stays out of trouble. And as for that offer of yours, I'm afraid I can't allow him to go off into any danger you folks might face in whatever your journey might be..."
Merrik lowered his head. He was actually still embarrassed from being discovered, and was not fully aware of the offer he was given...
----------
"Aye, tis may be true, laddie," Tarnik replied, calmly. "But there are be folks who don't take kindly to such talks. Bad omens and witchcraft they call it..."
